We recently connected with Bekah Peace and have shared our conversation below.
Bekah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
My photography career took off and I started working as a Gala photographer all thanks to one client I had photographed named Jaime. Jaime asked me to shoot free pictures at a forthcoming event, and in return, my business card was placed in each guest’s gift basket. After that one shoot, Pantherella Events (that event coordinator) hired me to photograph all of her Galas going forward, all because she loved my work. My photography profession started with newborn, kid, and family photos. Later, I was the lead event photographer and managed four assistant photographers at High Profile Events & Galas with 200–800 attendees and a famous speaker. I was the main photographer for La Jolla Playhouse for several years; as well as the photographer for Modern Luxury Magazine. During local events, I was the personal photographer for Laura Bush, Dr. Ben Carson, Music star Steven Tyler, Clothing Designer Nicole Miller, Athlete Tony Hawk and many more amazing people. It’s crazy how one special person can change your life.
Bekah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always loved art in all its forms, but my biggest love has always been photography. I decided one day to use YouTube tutorials to teach myself how to capture pictures and then edit them in Photoshop. Thus, I did. I am now an experienced Photoshop editor and I can take my photos beyond what I ever imagined possible. I I believe that my prompt response to emails, calls, and messages is what helps me succeed in my career. I am aware that if a new client doesn’t hear back from me right away, they will go on to the next company. I also maintain my clients’ yearly return business. With many of my clients, I have formed lifelong friendships. I approach every photo shoot as though it’s my first, and I always give it my all to produce incredible images. My incentive is my clients happiness. They will always be able to treasure these memories.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Due to the lack of social interaction during COVID-19, my photography shoots were at a standstill. I opened a second business using the time I had during the epidemic. I saw that since we were all confined to our houses, people wanted new pets. I made the decision to breed Bengal cats as a result. It looked like a wise decision because shelter adoption for these stunning Asian leopards was not an option. Bengal cats adore children, families, dogs, and water. They are also incredibly gorgeous and hypoallergenic. Like a dog, you can even walk them on a leash and stroll them anywhere. Four years later, San Diego Dream Bengals is growing rapidly. Even now, I don’t have enough kittens for my clients. My photographic skills were used to establish my Bengal website www.sandiegodreambengals.com, which I update with each new litter. It has been amazing to watch this business grow and I can combine my love for photography and animals.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
The cost of starting a Bengal business was high. I spent the government money I was given for not being able to work photography during COVID-19 to start my second business. I had to buy bengal cats, and I had special custom catios made so that the cats could play outside safely. I have one that is literally outside but sits in the middle of my house, so we can watch the cats through the windows in our home. The catio has a jungle theme.
Because I’m obsessed with décor, I also made a kitten nursery and took my time with every little detail.
I was so happy that the company did succeed so I could get my original investment back.
