We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Becky Vasquez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Becky, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission in life is to build and create movements that awaken people to their true identity in Christ! Through vehicles like my design business Rev Creative, our family non profit Build His House where we help families rebuild and renew strong connection and foundation on identity, presence and purpose or helping others build their brands ~ my passion is to create authentic brands and movements that draw people to Jesus!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a young aspiring artist, I used to grab my dad’s surf magazine and flip through the pages, hand-drawing the logos of different companies. This sparked my love for graphic design, which I further developed through vocational courses in high school and continued at Art School in college. Through amazing mentors, internships, and on-the-job training opportunities, I discovered an industry that I loved! When my husband joined the navy and we started having kiddos, the technology and design industry started changing fast, I realized creating my own niche and design firm was my next best move! That’s when God spoke to me during a workout session on the sidelines of my son’s soccer practice. I was sprinting back and forth working out some frustration of “moming” in the middle of deployment, and God said Rev it up! Like “rev your engines”, I’m just getting started with you! I remember feeling so seen and alive, like I could do anything! That’s when I knew my new brand would be Rev Creative! Also my birth name is Rebekah Re and last name Vasquez and that’s where the V comes in! Over the past two decades, I have assisted numerous entrepreneurs, ministries, and businesses in discovering, uncovering, and gaining clarity and passion about what God has called them to create! The best part is I do it all in partnership with the Holy Spirit as I pray and listen and and every time God speaks and gives me understanding and creativity to create the authentic language and visuals to represent their mission or movement. If I could encourage fellow creatives developing their skills or artists out there, I would say that creating is one of the most amazing experiences to share with The Creator! Music, art, sound, and design moves mountains and breaks through to hearts more than words. So go, create, express, but do it with God! It’s the most liberating and beautiful way to create! His intentional, thoughtful, intricate, insightful, inspiring, glorious ways are so much higher than ours! So bring your creativity to him and watch what he does! The world says climb the ladder, take the credit, compare yourself to someone else, and even doubt because the industry is too saturated or even becoming obsolete because of AI… I say leave it all behind and give it all up to follow and steward your gifts with Him! And there will be no end to what He can accomplish with you!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The branding and design industry is rapidly evolving and changing! Technology has and will continue to challenge our industry, so being flexible and willing to pivot is an essential attribute of any creative! From Instagram to AI, apps, and websites, the abundance of web-building platforms saturates the market. We must understand that our value and creativity come not from what we know but from who God has created us to be! And that these are just tools that we need to discern whether it will benefit our clients, needs, and the brand!I remember when I was trained in Dreamweaver! It’s funny to think that younger audiences might not even know what that is. Dreamweaver was an intricate web design program that required extensive knowledge to create websites. Then suddenly, platforms like WIX and Squarespace emerged, and my clients began telling me they wanted to be able to edit their own websites. Many of them opted for these templates because they were less expensive! My first thought was great, these new products will take our place as web designers! Yet God reinforced to me that it’s only a tool, so how could I harness it? There is a huge difference between a templated website and a professional unique designed website still using the new template ad easy access for my clients! So now it’s my zone! I use platforms for my clients’ convenience, allowing them full control and access at any time. My role is to transform a template into a complete brand experience!Once I complete their website and brand, it looks completely customized and effectively speaks to their target audience! And I love how God shows up in the conversations as I help my clients uncover new ideas and authentic brand representation across all their platforms! It’s the best feeling! They usually end up having me manage their websites anyway to save time, so they then become a monthly on going client! Which is what every creative needs! Sustainable, monthly income!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Reputation is a big deal in the world’s model of doing business. I remember when Instagram came out and everyone was trying to post where they were and what they were accomplishing and who they were with. I fell into that trap as well. Suddenly I found myself in the rat race where I was searching for significance and the praise of man. Oh what a slippery slope! When the next best thing arrives, you may feel insignificant and desperately want to be seen, trying to prove your relevance. Let me give you permission to stop playing the game of reputation. Stop seeking the approval and the 5 stars. Instead serve with integrity and show up! Show up as your true authentic self, operating and serving the specific niche in your artistry and you will never compare or have to fight for reputation. No, let your work and character will speak for itself. The swift path to fame is often marred by pride, and we all know the saying: pride comes before a fall! And I express this with deep love for anyone reading this who is struggling. Talent can take us places that our character can’t sustain us and falling from the high places that man or you have placed yourself will surely come to an end and great fall at some point. It’s better to build slowly, earn credibility through how you create with intentionality serving others! Then your artistry and work will speak for itself and your name will be spoken in rooms your not even standing in. People will refer you and that my friend is the best “reputation” you can ask for!
