We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Becky Vang a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Becky, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew I wanted to pursue an artistic path in the beauty industry after I started getting my lash extensions done. I realize the time I can save during my rushed mornings and the enhancement it does to my eyes. It’s was the extra confidence boost I never knew I needed. About two years later, I got my eyebrows tattooed and I loved the symmetrical balance it added to my face along with my lash extensions. That there, lit a spark in me that the way to look effortlessly put together without even having to do too much or spend a huge amount of time is to just maintain these minimal beauty enhancements. From there on, eyelash extensions along with permanent makeup brows became a lifestyle and I knew I wanted to give everyone else the self satisfaction and feel how I felt.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was a retail associate/ brand ambassador before I pursued my passion in the beauty industry. My business name is Beastie BeautieBar because I specialize in eyelash extensions, PMU brow, as well as, customizing artworks for body tattoos. The thought is to make you feel confident and invincible like you are a beast at being you and/or expressing your artistic side of body tattoos. I provide a variety of creative works, therefore, it is like a beauty bar. When it comes to clients’ eyelashes or eyebrows, their concern is the length, size and symmetry. I help clients achieve their ideal look by consulting with them on their expectations and the realistic results they can achieve.
What sets me apart from others is my understanding of the difference we each are as individuals and knowing how to work with the different face and eye shapes.
One of the things I am most proud of is being able to turn my passion into my career. Whether you are currently a client, a potential client or a follower of mine, I want you to know that even when you are in my chair, your opinion matters. I will not judge you by any means but what I will do is give you my professional opinion on what suits you best; the decision is yours to make.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I’ve gotten a few comments such as, “you are so lucky to do what you do” or “you’re so lucky to have a business”. Something to understand about my journey is that I did not just wake up and get to where I am overnight. It is definitely not based on luck but more of practicing every day and night to see improvement and progress. We all start from the ground up in building our journey up to basic standard and there may have been a few blood and tears or even a thought of quitting but reminding myself that, one downfall doesn’t mean it’s the end, is what has helped me to keep moving forward. Being lucky has nothing to do with my journey but being committed is.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the freewill to do whatever I want, whenever I want. I enjoy being an artist because I get to communicate and relate to all my clients from all sorts of background.
