We were lucky to catch up with Becky Peavy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Becky , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
While my parents have shaped the very being that I am, one thing they did that impacted my life the most- they allowed me the freedom to be me. My mom knew the minute I was born that I was going to be a handful. She never resisted me choosing my own path, but yet she encouraged me to be whoever I wanted to be. She would go onto say that she didn’t realize I would take it quite so far, but I am grateful I didn’t get stuck in a tunnel of societal expectations because she was strong enough to raise a strong woman.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Most people have not read about me. I have always had a passion for fitness, a passion for authentically me, and a passion for going against the grain. Those three worlds met when I suffered a severe back injury and I was left without the ability to move my body in the ways I was used to for years. I became resentful of the fitness community. It felt stuffy and like I didn’t belong. Keep in mind, when you judge someone or something, you are not defining them, but you are defining yourself. I didn’t like this feeling. I wanted to feel like fitness not only belonged to me, but it could belong to anyone in this world. Our bright, fun, and bold products add a little lightness and fun to your fitness routine. They are as unique as you and serve as a little reminder that fitness doesn’t have to be routine, boring, and rigid. We pride ourselves on quality first and serving our customers. We are always working on new ideas and products to make fitness available to anyBODY, anywhere.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My business partner, Jaime Baird, is the most beautiful human you will meet inside and out. We met in 2018 through a mutual friend and quickly formed a soul-level bond while we worked together on her private label. Our journey took us on different paths, but we found ourselves deeply connected again in 2021 after each grieving the loss of a parent. If you have ever lost a loved one, you know that grief can sometimes be debilitating. Finding the strength to push forward sometimes takes every ounce of energy you have. When you are an entrepreneur, most of your efforts are done without immediate reward or any reward at all. Sometimes it can take years for an idea to come to light, and let’s not even talk about paychecks. What are those? So when you are walking down a deep, dark road, it can be hard to find the motivation to keep going.
We knew that the universe was crossing our paths again for a reason, and our parents (my mom and her dad) were also orchestrating a reunion of sorts and we joined forces to bring new life to JaimeFit + Movèo. This is evolving into a new branch of our business and we will be opening a studio in the Orlando that will be more than just training. We are going to focus on the whole woman. We will hold workshops and retreats to elevate the whole woman from nutrition, time management, style, organization and more.
And to think all this came from a simple coffee meeting at Starbucks almost 5 years ago.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There has not been a single easy road on this journey. I want to quit every day. I have faced roadblocks every step of the way. Just when I pick myself up and start getting the energy to move forward, I get knocked down again and it seems like the punches are getting harder. From moving three times in the almost five years of existence, to the pandemic and supply chain issues, to (happily) putting my business on the back burner to care for my mom during her cancer journey and then watching her suffer and die, and then losing my dog a few months later, to now having a severe knee injury that has developed into CRPS and I can’t even walk on my own, I have felt like quitting more times than I have felt like going on, but I know when I look at the Movéo logo that there is a big future it. I know that everything I went through with my back injury led me to Movéo and everything that has happened I’ve the past couple of years is leading me where I am supposed to be; the overcoming is the becoming. I also have a strong support system. I have friends never let me lose sight of my vision- a movement where any body, anywhere feels like fitness is available for them and they are accepted.
