We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Becky ONeal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Becky below.
Alright, Becky thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
As a creative, I am drawn to creative projects and endeavors. I studied art and design in college and the basic design principles apply to many aspects in life. I have a history of fine art , landscape design, photography and marketing. One of the key things as a working creative is recognizing opportunities that you can apply your skills and talents. I think I have evolved and grown as an artist and use the mediums at hand to my best ability whether I am painting on a canvas, capturing with a camera or creating the space in nature. Today with the access to social media for marketing and user friendly websites sharing your talent has grown and vast improvement from when I began.. I recently opened a working studio space in Sawyer Yards Campus at Spring Street Studios. I am looking forward to teaching workshops and expanding within the Artist community in the Houston Art District. Located 1824 Spring Street , studio 212

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always felt an inherent need to be creative. This is evident in everything that I do. I spend hours just noticing what’s around me and I may capture in photography , sketch’s or just mental pictures for later reference . I love improving our spaces where we work , live or play. Elements of design and art become problem solvers when I enhance the space of interior or exterior.. My appreciation of art and horticulture started at a very early age and continues today as an artist , designer and horticulturist, my art and design has been featured in Southern Living Magazine and projects that I have been apart of have won national awards. But some of my most proud moments are sharing and teaching others in the community to also be creative and have fun learning your talents.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I believe people as an audience love to hear the story. I build my audience by sharing stories along with my art or photos. I include videos of work in progress to create interest in what most do not see of the process. This helps support the finish work and builds familiarity with me as the artist. I like to engage with the community and share my talent. Build an audience by showing who you are and what you create.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to share and teach what I know about art and being creative in the community. I love creating pieces that tell the story of our region in nature, places and people. I currently have an accessible public studio and plan to build an out reach to community to share current work and projects.
