Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Becky McMillian. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Becky, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I absolutely love being an entrepreneur here in Austin. It provides so much opportunity for growth in the industry I love. I hope everyone that buys my product or employees that work with me know how much they mean to me. I love being able to give back to people as much as I can, whether it be donating my services to help fundraiser for charities or helping guide an employee become successful by building their skill levels.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I own 512 Boutique Events, which provides catering services to the Austin area. I consider my catering services to be Nordstrom quality with Target pricing. I pour my love into the food because I want your event to have much success. I stay focused on providing quality service to my clients. It’s not just about how good the food taste, but about the quality of service you receive.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
My initial capital was 100% pure hustle and about $150 for a website. If you have a dream you will do anything to make it happen. I started taking on small events I could perform by myself. I used things I already owned to get things going. You set aside money you receive from each event to buy more stuff to build your inventory. Never get yourself in debt, but continue to buy assets!

Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
The best thing you can do for marketing is giving away your product to people who will buy your product. For instance, I pair up with corporate event planners and do a Friendsgiving every Thanksgiving. There is about 50 event planners who own the market here in Austin. I spend about $2k for this event and I get about $400k in return from leads they give me. You have to give if you want to receive.
