We recently connected with Becky Karle and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Becky , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
In 2017 our daughter was married at our farm. I collected mismatched vintage style dish ware to serve dinner on. After the wedding was over I received many requests to borrow the dishes. This inspired me to turn the mismatched vintage dishes I started collecting into a business.
Becky , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My business name is Elsie’s Cupboard. The name was inspired by my granddaughter. Her name is Elsie. She is Currently 5 years old. I rent mismatched vintage and vintage style dishes for any event. Weddings, baby and bridal showers, Christmas parties etc..
I really enjoy putting a nice table setting together for events. I have service for up to 200 guests. My theme is “Decorate with dishes.” Adding color and texture to your event by using unique table settings.
Not to mention that using my dishes are also environmentally friendly.
Starting this business and been outside of my comfort zone. I have enjoyed all of the people I have met along the way. I have met some new friends and found other vendors to be very supportive and kind.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social Media has been my biggest source of advertising. It has also been my biggest source of stress. I am not comfortable with navigating social media, so it does create some anxiety for me.
I still have work to do to become more savvy with social media. I continue to try and learn and become more comfortable with the process.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Elsie’s Cupboard is my side hustle. It has not grown into full time career, but my goal is to continue to enjoy it and plan to use the income generated to pay for travel expenses. I have many places I would like to see in the United States starting with hiking Yellowstone National Park this fall.
