We were lucky to catch up with Becky Kamp recently and have shared our conversation below.
Becky, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
I will say this, it is hard to take vacations from time to time. The best advice I could give anyone is plan ahead and I mean like a year out. Book the time off in your phone calendar, home calendar, email calendar, etc… If you don’t then you won’t be going anywhere. Also, learn when your down time is with work. Being a dog trainer, I’ve noticed when school starts and around Christmas time is the best time to take a vacation. When I am wanting to go away for the summer months, I plan in winter, so I have the time booked off even if I don’t have anywhere to go yet.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a certified Dog trainer in the Metro Detroit area. I am a positive reinforcement & force free trainer. I have been training dogs now for about 11 years. I help improve family dogs by training their owners. I guide their owners to under their dog’s body language, teaching them basic and advance training. I work on basic obedience, jumping behavior. loose leash walking, and fearful or reactivity issues. My goal is to make sure your family dog stays in your home and not end up in a shelter or rescue. I do work with shelters & rescues as well to help their dogs in their care to becoming adoptable. I love meeting new people and of course their dogs. I like to help others in need and help them work out their problems with their dogs. You would be surprised with just some patience and consistence your dog can overcome any obstacle.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe word of mouth helped me in the long run. I’ve been in business for 11 years and I am just now really getting big in my area. It is about being nice, actually listening to your clients’ problems with their animals and helping them work on it. I am a big advocate on teaching patience with dogs. It takes time and I feel like once a client of mine works with me a few times, that they learn it too.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with previous clients, by email or sometimes through text with my personal phone. I’ll have some clients that keep in touch with me and give me progress reports on how their dog is doing or if they need to continue doing some training with me. I like to give my client’s peace of mind and sometimes that means giving out your personal phone number to them so they can contact me when needed.
