Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Beck G. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Beck thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success has both a heavy definition and duty. It occurred to me that success is personal & even subjective, so it is certain. I see it that if one can decide & define for themselves what success is then one can exert the output necessary to accomplish the required task(s) to earn and receive the according rewards. In my personal and professional life, I have an intentional two-pillar principle approach to acheive and measure success. Those are being consistent and building relationships. It serves me, my business, and those connected.
Beck, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a native of Norfolk, VA. I have had a colorful experience in the entertainment industry, first as an artist. As a young teenager, I was the lead singer in a 4-girl a capella singing group called Elegant Harmony. We won Teddy Riley’s first talent show in VA in the ’90s and even appeared on BET. After moving back to Virginia from living in Atlanta, GA for a short while, I picked up my desire to impact the entertainment industry. I went on to learn the entertainment business away from the mic.
I am an award-winning radio personality. I hosted my own top rated, Saturday morning show “The Morning After Show” at ‘Famous Radio Live’. There I was also the PR Director helping to grow it’s reach to over one million listeners a year in 13 countries! From 2020-2022, I housed my radio talents at Wu Tang Radio where I co-hosted a show and had the role of Public Relations Manager for Wu Tang Management. Now I am back at my home station, Famous Radio Live, as co-host of “The Vinyl Word Show” and PR Director. I have been described as captivating, motivational, inspirational, jovial and energetic. Clients seek my passionate and charismatic style. I serve as a professional mistress of ceremonies, on-camera media for celebrities, red carpets, & various events, voice over artist, public speaker, talent scout, and even still as a singer.

Have you ever had to pivot?
As a public relations firm, halting clients’ activities due to COVID-19 hurt my & their business & personal feelings the most. The pandemic caused a major disruption to my business as I relied heavily on events, interviews, and in person contact to run my company. When “it” hit, all of that came to a screeching stop like someone slammed on my business brakes. I exhausted myself working to switch to the new norm– online, phone, & video. It is different and difficult. I had just moved in to my brand new office (and updated my business address) on March 1, 2020 and preparing for multiple events (my business’s main source of income) scheduled through EOY. In less than 14 days, I was working to shift & salvage business in this new norm, issuing refunds, canceling invoices, filling out help me save my business paperwork & sharing resources with other business owners.
I managed to create impactful moments with my clients. As a business owner, we learn all the right things to do- plan, pivot, save, expand, or as I tell my clients think a mile down the road. But never had I ever devoted much thought to what if business is completely interrupted because of a communicable disease or because I literally can’t come outside to play. With perseverance, support, change in mindset, and thinking outside the box, I was able to pour into my company’s basic needs/expenses, buy from other small businesses, hire & outsource from my community and other small businesses, participate in uplifting my community, and serve my clients properly & completely.
My company is a small, micro, woman- & Black- owned business. My clients especially include other small businesses. They call & count on me to increase their voice & visibility to their communities & potential customers. I’m still standing. The mission hasn’t changed, just the method. I started my business on faith. So I still have a real responsibility to maintain that same energy. I could only press on. I did. I have. I will. As a matter of fact, I only get the grace of that luxury. I stand on the shoulders of so many women whose successes all gave me the same instructions- see, sow, share.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Since I’m in the business of building brands, I take great care to be intentional about my own. It is important to walk the walk so I could talk the talk with true testimony. Like I teach my clients, there must be a thing that immediately comes to mind about you & your brand when your name is called or when you walk in and out of a room. I live and move easy. What I mean by that is I only make and have space for what serves me and others most and best. We have a duty to be upright and righteous in our doings. That shouldn’t be confused with a wasteful attempt at perfection. I’m talking about being deliberate about everything from keeping our conversations above par, our intentions pure & apparent, and our output clean.
As I encounter folk especially in business and professional settings, each moment anyone stops to hear from me is precious. I declare my intentions and I follow up with that same energy in actions. It is a privilege and honor to be considered. So I treat people in my presence and acquaintance accordingly. It is my responsibility to teach my public to & how to expect & respect me and my business. This is pretty global advice but I assure you this fits just fine in business.
