We recently connected with Beck Black and have shared our conversation below.
Beck, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to be a professional artist when I acted in a film and created the musical theme “I’m Just a Sailor”. I played the role of both the sailor and the muse in the short film directed by David Lynch’s nephew. This acting role and song is what sparked my interest to perform theatrical art. Having the song, “I’m just a Sailor” becoming the cinematic theme, exuded the confidence to write more songs based on characters.
Beck, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Let artists be! The industry needs to cease idolization of social media numbers! It’s quality not quantity. Also society should promote artists on their journey to immerse themselves in different forms of art and genres. I was told along my Artist journey to pick a lane. I feel this is a cumbersome quote to project upon a creative mind. Instead, I cruise the highway of art and will continually never pick a lane. Let’s see where I go!?
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To express myself unapologetically and to be discovered for my art. So many artists are told by industry that in order for them to be successful, they must go viral. These notations all lead to what is Andy Warhol’s maxim “15 seconds of fame”. I might not see the fruit of my labors in this lifetime, like Van Gogh and Edgar Allan Poe. Although, my songs are my legacy, I hope no matter my lifespan, the songs will live on. If only for fifteen seconds I could feel the warm limelight, I think it would propel me further in this dark tunnel called the underground music scene.
