We were lucky to catch up with Becca Mohler recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Becca, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Absolutely, I appreciate the chance to discuss Cal Heights Music. While the challenges of running a business are undeniable, the sense of accomplishment and connection we’ve built within our community outweighs any doubts. Naturally, there have been tough moments, particularly during the pandemic, but witnessing the growth and joy we bring to our students, and community, it keeps us driven and dedicated.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Absolutely, I’d be delighted to share more about Cal Heights Music and what makes us unique.
I’m Becca, and together with my husband Billy, we embarked on the journey of creating Cal Heights Music. Our story is rooted in a genuine passion for music and a strong desire to offer something truly special to our community.
It all began when our neighbors asked where we were sending our kids for music lessons, and we realized we didn’t have an answer. That moment sparked a realization: there was a need for a music space that was more than just lessons – a place that nurtured creativity, community, and a love for music. With our three young children in mind and a deep involvement in our community, we decided to turn that vision into reality.
At Cal Heights Music, we provide an all-encompassing musical experience for people of all ages. From babies and toddlers taking their first musical steps to adults rekindling their passion for music, our classes cover a wide spectrum. We offer a safe and nurturing environment where everyone can explore their musical interests, learn, and grow.
Our dedication to music education, our passion for nurturing talents, and our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive space are at the heart of everything we do. We’re excited to continue our journey, sharing the magic of music and building a community that celebrates creativity and growth.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Sure! My cofounder and business partner is my husband Billy! Our journey began in the music industry – he was touring as a bass player in a major label band, and I was working for the record label. Our shared love for music sparked a connection that led us to start our own band. We eventually got married, had three rad children, and our collective passion for music evolved into co-founding Cal Heights Music, where we continue to share our love for music with our community.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Our reputation in the market has been built on a foundation of authenticity and shared values. As parents ourselves, we wanted something specific for our children – a safe, nurturing, and vibrant space where they could explore the world of music. This resonated deeply with other parents in our community. Our commitment to exceptional customer service has been paramount – we’ve strived to ensure that each student and their family feels not just welcomed, but truly embraced like family. This genuine care, coupled with our shared mission and dedication, has been instrumental in shaping our reputation and fostering a strong sense of trust within our market.
