We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Becca Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Becca, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
When I started my business, I was a stay at home mom of two young kids, ages 2 & 6 months old. Aside from the joy and challenges that come with motherhood, I was facing some hard times in my personal life. I knew the only way out of these hard times was to change myself and grow in ways I hadn’t before. I decided to start my business and came up with the name Bloom and Blossom Jewelry. I chose the name Bloom and Blossom because flowers continue to grow, flourish, and thrive against any harsh conditions. No matter how difficult outside factors may be, they continue their growth and are always beautiful in the end. It’s a testament to me that I can flourish, thrive, and grow no matter what life has to offer. I want to remember that there’s always room for personal and collective growth. The name Bloom and Blossom has become a haven for me on my journey to personal growth and for anyone else who needs the reminder that they can change, thrive, and become their best and most beautiful selves.
Becca, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey! I’m Becca. I’m a 29 year old stay at home mom of two kiddos, now 5 and 3. I’m lucky enough to be able to work on my business at home with my kids or while they’re at school.
Although it’s hard for me to remember, I’m pretty sure I remember seeing pressed flower jewelry on Pinterest and thinking, “I can do that.. but better!”
I really pride myself on cute, trendy, and affordable pressed flower necklaces. I work hard to make them as dainty and delicate as possible! I want my jewelry to have to the same elegant but every day feel as the gorgeous flowers around us.
A surprise to me was thinking that my birthstone pressed flower necklaces or my birth flower necklaces would be my best sellers. But I was humbled to find that my forget me not necklaces were actually my best sellers, being bought by and for women who have recently gone through miscarriages or loss of their newly born babies. After seeing how many necklaces were being bought for miscarriages alone, I decided to add free shipping so that I could hopefully help those mothers who needed comfort. I’ve talked with many of the women buying my necklaces and am always brought to tears as they tell me their stories about their babies they lost.
Bloom and Blossom is a symbol of strength, change, and growth. I was unaware that my business name would be a place of peace and connection to so many as well.
Yes, I make cute, trendy, and affordable pressed flower jewelry. I also help mothers and family members heal. I give peace. And I help women wearing my jewelry have a personal connection to themselves. My hope is that I can help others grow their confidence, like mine has grown so much from starting my business.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I believe my best source of new clients has been my Instagram page! I don’t have thousands or millions of followers. The first local store I ever put my jewelry in, reached out to me on Instagram when I had less then 300 followers. You’re followers do matter, but what you’re posting and how passionate you are is what gets you through the door sometimes. Im currently in 5 local businesses, and 3 out of the 5 stores have reached out me. Social media has been huge for my success in my business. I’ve gotten many customers from my Instagram, and get to be apart of the community where I live. Im so so thankful for Instagram!
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
Currently I sell through Etsy. I love Etsy! The beauty of Etsy is that they drive traffic to me. I make my listings, I use key SEO words, and people view my page because of it! I did attempt Shopify in the very beginning, but because I was so new to my business, I didn’t have any sales because I was having to drive my own traffic to my own website. I’m not saying Shopify isn’t great, it just didn’t work for me at that time.
Hundreds of thousands of people visit Etsy every day. Hundreds of thousands of people are buying products in my niche every day. There’s a lot of confidence knowing that. I’ll continue to use Etsy because of this, and may even try Shopify again in the future as I continue to grow.
