Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Becca Brooks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Becca, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
Hands down – anticipating problems and questions before they arise.
Prior to starting Becca Brooks Events & Design, I spent nearly 10 years working in marketing and public relations at agencies and large consumer-facing brands. Whether I was developing executive-facing presentations or strategizing cross-channel advertising campaigns, I was taught at an early age to poke holes, remember the end-objective, think through all scenarios and always, always offer solutions that meet objectives and make the client happy.
This lesson served me well in corporate America, and it’s served me even better as a wedding planner. As a wedding planner, I produce and manage live-action events. And in live-action events, while nothing ever goes perfectly, the goal is to get it as close to perfect as possible. Rain plans are a staple, overcommunication is key and high-touch service goes a long way. Your wedding day is often considered one of the best days of your life. And I take that very seriously. I create the space for my clients to enjoy their wedding by handling all the little details. They focus on the stuff that really matters, while I plan the celebration to reflect it.
Becca, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Becca Brooks is a full-service wedding planning and event design studio serving the Southeast and beyond. We specialize in crafting whimsically refined celebrations for all of life’s milestone moments. Seeking to be our clients’ events concierge – we bring together all of the little details to make an event feel incredibly personal and incredibly polished. It’s our goal to serve clients when they first get married, and then to stay a part of their lives by planning their other equally as special milestone moments, such as their child’s first birthday or their parents’ 50th anniversary.
Our clients value the reason for the celebration: the marriage after the wedding, the stewarding of a child after the birth, the joyful pride of the 50th anniversary. We want to create the space for them to enjoy that by handling all of the little details ourselves.
We believe every breath we take is worth celebrating. So the event that brings our clients to us? That better be the party of the century. These little moments make up our lives, but the memories we make during the big life events become our legacy. We want to help make our clients’ moments ones they can remember forever.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Before officially launching Becca Brooks Events & Design in early 2022, it was my brainchild of more than two years. By trade, I’m a marketer, but after planning and designing my own wedding more than five years ago, I knew that my true passion was producing beautiful, unique and meaningful events. From there, it was my goal to make my passion my life’s work. I just had to figure out how to do it right.
I threw countless events for friends, helped plan my sister’s wedding (twice, thanks to Covid), designed mood boards for anyone who needed them and chaired large events for local nonprofits. But even with this, I learned I needed more on-the-ground, professional experience. So, I took on the role of assisting a local wedding planner on weekends while working my corporate job Monday – Friday, and I used any time left over to develop my business plan for Becca Brooks Events & Design.
After having a baby late last year in 2021, I took a leap of faith and left my full-time corporate job to pursue wedding and event planning full-time. I signed on my first client almost simultaneously, and the rest is history. I’m so proud of what I’ve created, and I’m honored that I get to serve others the best way I know how – by helping make their memories unforgettable through an artfully crafted event.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
People. I’ve spent this year creating and nurturing relationships with vendors, friends, family and other businesses.
I’ve become connected with nearly all of my current clients through a relationship I’ve built and nurtured with a mutual friend or vendor partner who is kind enough to recommend me as a wedding planner or event designer. People are the reason why we’re here – the reason why we celebrate – so I do everything I can to make those relationships as meaningful as possible.
