We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Beauté Harleaux a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Beauté, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As the founder of Unconscious Beauté Studio, my mission is rooted in empowering individuals by enhancing their natural beauty and providing transformative hair solutions. This mission is deeply meaningful to me because I’ve witnessed firsthand how access to quality hair care can uplift a person’s confidence, especially those dealing with medical hair loss or navigating the complexities of textured hair. Growing up, I saw the lack of representation and care for diverse hair types in the beauty industry, which inspired me to not only offer luxury services but to also educate clients and aspiring beauty professionals on proper hair care and business skills. It’s not just about aesthetics for me; it’s about offering services that restore confidence and dignity while empowering others to find success in this industry.

Beauté, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Beauté Harleaux, the founder and owner of Unconscious Beauté Studio, where we specialize in luxury hair care, medical wigs, hair extensions, loc services, and color treatments. My journey into the beauty industry began out of a passion for celebrating diverse hair textures and helping others feel confident and empowered. Early on, I realized the beauty industry often overlooked textured hair and those experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions. This ignited a passion in me to not only master the craft but to also become an advocate for accessible, high-quality hair care for everyone, regardless of hair type or circumstance.
At Unconscious Beauté Studio, we offer services that go beyond the surface. We focus on enhancing natural beauty while ensuring the health and integrity of our clients’ hair. Whether it’s offering seamless hair extensions, custom medical wigs, or advanced color treatments, our goal is to provide a transformative experience for each client. What sets us apart is our personalized approach and dedication to education. We ensure our clients understand how to maintain their styles and hair health, which is why consultations are an essential part of our process. Additionally, our services are inclusive, addressing the needs of those who have struggled to find tailored care in the past.
I’m most proud of the impact my work has on boosting clients’ self-confidence and how it has empowered me to mentor up-and-coming beauty professionals. I’ve also extended my passion for education by offering business courses and consulting for beauty entrepreneurs, helping them navigate and grow their own businesses. Ultimately, I want people to know that Unconscious Beauté Studio is a space where artistry, education, and self-care intersect. We’re not just providing hair services—we’re creating a community centered on beauty, empowerment, and growth.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey into the beauty industry was filled with challenges, but resilience became my greatest asset. When I first started Unconscious Beauté Studio, I faced significant hurdles in navigating the competitive nature of the beauty industry, especially as a woman of color in a predominantly mainstream space. There were times I questioned whether I could truly carve out a space that honored both my creative vision and my commitment to inclusive beauty standards. However, during a particularly rough patch, when client bookings slowed and business expenses mounted, I didn’t give up. Instead, I focused on honing my skills, educating myself on the latest hair care techniques, and expanding my services to cater to clients with specialized needs, such as medical wigs for those experiencing hair loss. That period of slow business allowed me to build a foundation of expertise that has since set my studio apart. Today, we are known for offering highly specialized services that cater to diverse clientele, which wouldn’t have been possible without the resilience to push through those early setbacks.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2014, I became a licensed cosmetologist and dedicated myself to working full-time in the beauty industry. By 2018, I shifted to part-time as I transitioned into a role in Corporate Healthcare Finance. It was a strategic pivot that allowed me to explore a different career path while still maintaining my passion for the beauty industry. However, after completing the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans (EBV) at Texas A&M University in Winter 2023, I felt a calling to return to my roots. Inspired by what I learned and the support I received, I resigned from my corporate position in December 2023 and returned to being a full-time stylist and owner of Unconscious Beauté Studio. This pivot allowed me to fully embrace entrepreneurship and build my business with a fresh perspective.
