Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Beau Burdette. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Beau, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea

I have an extensive history in candle making, product development, and sales + marketing. Scent in general has been a passion of mine from cooking to candle making – from a young age I have been intrigued by farmers markets, recipes and ingredients, and the flavor and aroma experience that ignites emotions, memories and wellbeing.

So when it was time to start my own venture, scent lead my path. I spent a lot of time blending different individual ingredients to create the exact formulas for many home and body wares. The Contents Co. offers candles, room sprays and mists from that were thought up in the initial R & D stage now in a finished, refined form.

Blending modern perfumery and ancient wisdom, we create botanic goods, taking a natural approach to a synthetic age. We are constantly inspired by the history and our surroundings to create meaningful, natural scents for your self and space. It starts with an ingredient/place/experience, and from there becomes a journey of scent to lift and highlight that inspiration.

Guided by a curiosity and importance of the botanic world, every product we make is an ode to the contents within. We use strictly natural oils, absolutes, extracts, and isolates in our unique formulations. Pairing pure ingredients with age old perfuming technique gives our scents balance, depth, and intrigue.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

The Contents Co. offers an elevated natural scent experience through our wares. Candles, room sprays and mists inspired by nature. Every small batch is perfumed from scratch adding one ingredient at a time. Our packaging is simple yet purposeful to showcase the contents within the product – what truly matters. We use glass jars and containers to be reused or recycled, and our product labels are printed on biodegradable material. The goal is to allow each user to create ritualistic, thoughtful experiences in their everyday.

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.

Our manufacturing + perfuming is all done in-house at The Contents Co. From my past experience making candles I learned a lot of tricks to the trade – the dos and don’ts of the process, the importance of testing phases, and what works for one does not alway work for the next. Ensuring I had the proper equipment and space was vital and worth the investment, too. Concentrating on a small batch production approach allows for better quality control every step of the way. Because we use natural ingredients, some change based on the harvest or time of year. Making those ourselves gives us the opportunity to adjust when needed for those instances. Taking on this responsibility does require keeping track of lots of moving pieces, and inventory and organization of each of those moving pieces, It also requires an extreme amount of time management. When in production mode that’s the focus, while other items on the to-do list need to be put on hold, timed or delegated. It’s all a balance, and as a small team we aim to continue the quality and hands-on approach as we look forward to growth to come.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I have always been passionate for scent and design. I’m known to seek out people and places to add to my knowledge base and keep motivating my fire for the art. My knowledge on ingredients as well as other brands in my field work hand in hand with my talent of connecting scent to a story, person, brand, place or experience. From the natural scent I perfume from scratch, to the intentional packaging, the attention to detail in every part of the process is what sets me apart. I am inspired by the past to create something in the present that will be remembered in the future.
