Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Beats By Hod. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Beats By, thanks for joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
2006 – As I was settling into a new home with my family, I started meeting other people around the neighborhood. My goal was to see if my new friends were actually into music like I was. I met a set a twins who go by the now established name “Fly Mind Poets” along with Quincy (who later became my best friend), which went by the name “Paperboi” or “Paperboi Q”. Eventually, I met others around the suburban neighborhood, who were also becoming artist. I met a guy name “Kinfolk” around the same time when I had met the other artist in the neighborhood. As time went on, In 2008, they started really noticing me and my music production. So we all linked and I became their music producer/beatmaker, recording engineer & mixing engineer. Featuring all of these artist on different production tapes I would put out on DatPiff.com from 2008 up until 2013. Now before I met these guys, I was already my own artist, but, I was ready to focus on other talent than myself. We made a lot of music up until 2014. fast forwarding to 2022, as I’m still building my buzz as a Music Producer, I started my own lawn business. One day, I get a call from “Kinfolk”. We talked on the phone for about a hour and a half. During that conversation, he mentioned and thanked for all the past work I done for them and just taking my time to invest into what they were trying to establish him and the others. He ended up sending me some money, which I didn’t expect him to do that. I was highly thankful for him doing that. Definitely was a very humbling situation and made me look at these different in my career. Sometimes you work for free and it will come back later as a unexpected blessing. I really took that and applied it more to my life. Good friends who you look at for and don’t expect something will lead definitely put good energy in your life. With him doing that I told myself “Wow, a very prolific move that was” and I was so thankful.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For those who never heard of me, I go by BeatsByHod, I am 30 years old and I am from Morrow, GA. I am a Music Producer & An Entreprenuer. I started my career at a very early age in elementary school. I started off rapping using a tape player to record my songs. So i would actually play a beat I got off Acid Music Studio from my computer speaker and would record the beat into the tape player along with me rapping. I don’t know how I came up with that method, but, it worked. As I got older, I started getting tired of rapper over beats that weren’t mine. A friend in the Morrow neighborhood which I was living in, told me about a program called “FL Studio” or what is known in todays time as “Fruity Loops”, a program used by music producers and beat makers to make compositions or recordings or songs. I used the program to make beats with. So I started using the program, I started progressing and getting better at it. Eventually, I would venture into BET, watching music videos all the time, I came across a song by Lil Wayne “You Aint Know” which was produced by Scott Storch. For some reason, that beat resonated with me and I became a fan of Scott Storch, motivating me to learn how to play the piano, which I wasn’t to bad at doing. I eventually ended up moving to a new area with my parents , which was the Lovejoy/Hampton area. One of my friends had put me on to a rapper named “Gucci Mane”. Now at this time, Gucci Mane had just released “So Icey” which featured Young Jeezy. But the beat stood out so much to me, I had to find out who made that beat. Later on, I would find out that a producer from California who goes by the name “Zaytoven”. Zaytoven’s sound was so unique to me, I started incorporating it into my beats and it made my sound much better. Later, I would venture into Young Jeezy as well. He had a producer named “Shawty Redd” whose sound really stood out to me. Shawty Redd became a super big influence in my career and still is til this very day.
As I got older, I started posting my beats online and artist would gravitate to my sound and would purchase beats from me. Sometimes, I would offer an extra free beat, just because I was so appreciative for them taking their time out to find my page, listen to my beats, and exchange currency for a product someone put their time into, which meant alot to me.
I feel like what sets me apart from other producers is that its very hard to imitate my sound. I make it very difficult, just as I was taught by friend/producer “BWheezy Beats” aka MightyB. He taught me to be different and enjoy myself as I create.
I’m proud to have made it thus far in my career. I’ve met all my influencers like BWheezy Beats, Metro Boomin, & Sonny Digital. I got a chance to work with one of my favorite Atlanta underground rappers, former Hypnotized Minds artist “T-Rock”.
I really do enjoy making music, now I like to image an artist in the room with me, vibing out and making a beat similar to what they would sound like on the beat. For example, I’ve always imaged Young Dolph in the studio, vibing with me while I make a beat, because I know I make beats that matches his style.
I take my work very very seriously and try my best to avoid lazy artist and cheap artist.
Nowadays, I go by BeatsByHod, which is my brand and Beat Trap is my production label. I started Beat Trap back in 2016, but it was just a name and never was thought about of being a production label until this year (2022). My goal is to be my own artist and put myself out there as an artist and producer. Something like what Big K.R.I.T. & Russ have going on. They make their own beats. Basically, being in full control of their creative side.
My goal is to continue climbing and spreading my name throughout this music world and be able to help brand other artist and music producers with my sound.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, definitely, my ultimate goal is to be able to take my sound and spread it out to the world. When artist hear my beats, they easily tap in, because of the fact that I’m different and I am easy to work with. I want to be a impact in the music production world, by influencing other young music producer or music producers in general with my sound and the success that has crossed my path.
