We were lucky to catch up with Beatriz Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Beatriz, appreciate you joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.

Smart Touch Skin Solutions was established in Murfreesboro, TN in 2013 and it is owned by Beatriz Robinson. Bea Robinson, 52, has been in the permanent makeup industry since 2000. She was born and raised in Brazil, South America and her medical background was an inspiration to develop safer and more effective techniques to deliver the most natural results in the permanent cosmetics field. She was one of the first professionals in Brazil to offer medical tattoo, mostly pro bono jobs for breast cancer survivors. Her passion for the craft together with the will of helping so many made her step out of her comfort zone and start Smart Touch Skin Solutions in USA.
Every business is a challenge but moving to USA in 2011 and starting all over was for sure very hard. The only way to attract the right clients would be nothing less than working on people’s faces so they would become her walking billboards.
Word of mouth started being very effective after several months, but customer services were key: “Clients will come to your business if they actually like your work, but they will remain very loyal if they like you as a person”
In 2020 we faced one of the most challenging times due to Covid. Smart Touch Skin Solutions was in lock down for 8 weeks, but when the business reopened it became extremely busy. Booking System had to be managed through an online platform, the demand for trainings and courses went sky high, business hours had to be increased, it was literally a bless but also unexpected.
With all the face covers everywhere, the “demand” for nice brows became a factor based on the clients testimonials.
Smart Touch Skin Solutions is 100% focused on long term results.
“Our techniques and pigment mixes are unique because we want our clients to have good eyebrows for 10-15 years without them turning into cartoon brows on the long run. Average quality pigments will age inside the skin and in most cases will turn ashy or bluish. Depending on the technique the client may end up with irreversible scars and it can become a nightmare over the years.
Many artists can pay for a training (many will just have an online training) but only experience and years of practice will bring the necessary amount of expertise to the artist. This job is also about love, we work to make people feel good about themselves and not for the money. Nothing is more rewarding than that smile we see on clients faces when we show them the mirror.
This industry is fascinating, it is not just a job, it is an endless journey! It is about transformation and the learning never ends! Constant researching and being humble is essential in any field but when we touch faces we are taking ownership of the results to be seen later, in months, years or decades.”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Our work is 100% focused on long term results. Microblading became the most demanded trend in the industry 8 years ago but the long term results compromises the skin health as whole. Our focus lately has been mainly fixing old jobs done by unprepared artist years ago. Since not every client is a candidate for microblading, color and shape corrections have been very demanded in the last 3 years. It is very challenging but at the same time immensely rewarding. It takes decades to have the proper knowledge to know how to layer and mix pigments according to genetics, skin types, skin tones, aging and sun damage. Every client is for sure a challenge but also someone’s face, and the joy is priceless. We are different from most businesses in the industry because WE CARE! We provide great customer service and we treat every client focusing on what should be the best option service wise. In some cases we rather not work on faces with previous jobs if we cannot make it look better and honesty is key! We discuss options and we propose realistic outcomes because our client will always be our walking billboard, wherever they go!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

Our strategy has always been “word of mouth”. Our job cannot be hidden because it is performed on people’s faces so most of our clients come to us because they saw our work on a friend’s or family member’s face. Being in business for almost 9 years in Murfreesboro, TN also helped us to build our reputation and brand. We have over 270 five stars reviews on Google and most of reviews really shows how we care for our clients, always!

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?

Absolutely! When I wake up in the morning I feel like the happiest person on earth because I absolutely love my job! Every new face is a gift, like a fresh canvas to be worked on… It is art on human’s faces and my clients satisfaction is the most rewarding feeling. I could never see myself doing anything else as a job in life. While I have good eyes and steady hands I will keep working on this amazing craft I have chosen!
