We recently connected with Beatriz De los Mozos and have shared our conversation below.
Beatriz , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
To provide a classic and comfortable but fun footwear that elevates and complements the wardrobe of the modern woman, that makes her feel better, more comfortable, more herself. To elevate, transmit and represent the made in Spain as a way of life and no longer an amalgam of brands, that the brand Spain becomes increasingly known in the world as a quality product, handcrafted, but designed and elaborated. To turn Flabelus, the Venetian espadrille, into a new type of footwear at a global level, recognized for its comfort but also for its sustainable values and its Spanish culture, which is very important to us. Convey versatility of style, culture and personality through the brand’s products, demonstrating to customers that it is more about personal style, closet, which does not depend on trends but is necessary. Drive transformed impact by reconnecting communities and supporting entrepreneurs through FlabHub. To become a true incubator of innovative and creative sustainable practices in the footwear industry and at the same time a channel for the public to witness and experience it. These are the main focuses I established when I founded Flabelus, all of them focused on improving the social and environmental well-being of society.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Flabelus is a magical world where everything is possible. We are the modern espadrille, as we transform the classic design of the Spanish espadrille, base for all our designs.
The idea is revolutionary: to turn espadrilles into timeless fashion shoes for citiwear and we do so by reshaping the shape/design of the espadrille while maintaining its centuries-old traditional stitching, construction and structure. Espadrilles artisans before Flabelus were nearly extinct as they worked only for a few months of the year, so the techniques and beauty of the artisan process were dying with them. Thanks to our collaboration with the artisans, we have given them a new means of work that lasts all year long and not only during the summer season. Espadrilles makers now not only make espadrilles but also flabelus. We have become a crucial advocate for the survival of the techniques and ancestral tradition of the Spanish espadrille.
Sustainability is one of the main values of the brand. All shoes are made in Spain (as already explained, we are espadrilles) and are Eco-Friendly, of the highest quality, responding to the needs of men and women today.
The main objective of Flabelus is to be able to offer a shoe handmade in Spain with ancestral techniques and above all carefully choosing high quality materials, but also sustainable, with a chain of production of proximity, where there is a continuous contact with all suppliers who are responsible for giving shape and substance to the process itself.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most important thing to boost the growth of a company is to study in detail the current needs of people in order to generate a product that is essential for both women and men nowadays.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
In our case, the reputation has been generated by the qualities of the shoe itself, such as craftsmanship, careful selection of materials and sustainability, among other aspects.
