We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Beatricia Sagar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Beatricia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
At the beginning of Covd 19 I responded to the isolation by doing Covid drawings. After a few months I came across a blank white puzzle and immediately had the inspiration to use puzzle pieces which are a metaphor for connection for a new project Which I called“ We Are All Connected Art Project” . I reached out to friends and Artists to participate. I send them 3 x3 inch puzzle pieces which are painted collaged, etc. I enclose a self-addressed envelope for the return. It’s a project free of gender bias, Racial prejudice and religious beliefs. It speaks to and raises the energy of hope and understanding.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Beatricia Sagar. I lived in New York and Pennsylvania before I moved to Miami Beach. I started being an artist at age 13 and have never stopped. In Miami beach I was part of the S. Florida Arts Center on Lincoln Road. It was open seven days a week from 10 in the morning till 10 at night. I had considered myself a New York artist. And have sold my work through galleries and inventive shows that I produced myself. So it was an amazing opportunity here in Miami to meet and see and discuss my work with people who would stop in as they were strolling Lincoln Road. It was a rare opportunity to be able not only to sell my work directly but to sell my work to major corporations like Neiman Marcus, Royal Caribbean, Fontainebleau, MTV, Four Seasons, etc.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I’ve been an artist since A very young age. I write poetry and I’ve written a book. Being creative gives me an internal permission to follow my curiosity, to see and capture beauty in many unusual ways and to twist and tie things together with paint, paper, brush, pencil, charcoal and color. It’s a space uniquely its own and where one can cast away the cares of the moment.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to reach as many people as I can. At the moment I have over 1500 puzzle pieces from artists in 35 countries. This is the first time I’ve done a Conceptual project. Almost every artist and friend thanks me and sends notes telling me how inspired they are by the message of the project. I am inspired by every trip to the mailbox and the amazing puzzle pieces I receive. I am hoping to see them in a Museum Collection.
