Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Beatrice Van. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Beatrice , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
As an esthetician, esthetic educator, solo esthetician, and founder of Beauty by Bea, LCC Glow by Bea Skincare, one thing I do differently from the industry standard is how I prioritize education, inclusivity, and personalized care. I take a holistic approach, focusing not only on treatments but also on empowering my clients with knowledge about their skin and how to care for it between visits.
Inclusivity and diversity are central to my practice. I believe that every skin type, tone, and concern deserves equal attention, and I’ve made it my mission to ensure that my clients and students feel seen, heard, and represented. As an educator, I instill this mindset in my students, teaching them to approach each client with sensitivity and understanding, tailoring treatments that reflect the unique needs of different skin types.
At Glow by Bea, my product formulations are also designed with diversity in mind, catering to a range of skin concerns with effective, multi-benefit ingredients. It’s important to me that my practice and my products reflect the rich diversity of the community I serve, ensuring that everyone feels confident in their skin and that each of my beauties can glow from home!

Beatrice , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a solo esthetician, educator, and the founder of Glow by Bea, a skincare line dedicated to creating simple, multi-benefit products that truly work. With two decades of experience in the beauty and skincare industry, my passion for esthetics started with a love for both the science and art of skin health. Over the years, I’ve cultivated a holistic approach that focuses on more than just surface-level treatments—it’s about understanding each client’s unique needs, lifestyle, and skin.
As an educator, I have the privilege of mentoring the next generation of estheticians, teaching them not only the technical skills but also the importance of inclusivity and diversity in their practice. I believe that every person, regardless of skin type or tone, deserves access to high-quality care, and I instill that value in my students. My goal is to empower them to create personalized, informed treatments for their clients.
At Glow by Bea, my products reflect the philosophy of addressing multiple skin concerns with simple, effective solutions. Whether it’s our Abyssinian Oil Elixir, Probiotic Exfoliating Cleanser, or Mineral Sun Shield, each product is thoughtfully formulated with purposeful ingredients to support long-term skin health and glow.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been my involvement beyond the treatment room. I’m proud to currently serve on the Oregon Board of Cosmetology, where I have the opportunity to influence industry standards and ensure a high level of care and safety for both professionals and clients. Additionally, contributing as an author and keynote speaker has allowed me to share my expertise and insights with a wider audience. These roles have been pivotal in shaping my career and continue to inspire my work as an educator, mentor and esthetician.
What sets me apart from others is my commitment to personalized care, inclusivity, and education. I take the time to truly understand my clients and their skin journeys. My experience as both a solo esthetician and educator allows me to offer expert guidance and tailored treatments, whether in the treatment room or through the products I develop.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients and students over the years. Watching people grow more confident in their skin or in their professional skills is incredibly rewarding. At the heart of everything I do is a desire to make skincare accessible, effective, and inclusive. I hope to continue making a positive impact in the beauty industry for years to come.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with my clients by focusing on personalized, ongoing communication that goes beyond just the appointment. I believe in building lasting relationships, so I make it a point to check in with my clients regularly, whether it’s through follow-up emails, skincare tips, or personalized product recommendations tailored to their needs. Social media also plays a big role. I share educational content, skincare advice, and behind-the-scenes insights into my practice and products, helping me stay connected and engaged with my community.
Fostering brand loyalty is all about trust and consistency. I make sure my clients know that I’m not just here to sell a product or service, but to genuinely help them on their skincare journey. This comes through in my commitment to offering personalized care, using quality ingredients, and maintaining a transparent, inclusive approach in both my Beauty by Bea practice and my products at Glow by Bea. By continuously offering value and maintaining authentic communication, I’m able to create a sense of trust that keeps clients coming back.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Growing up as the eldest in my family, I balanced caring for my siblings while helping at our Vietnamese banh mi shop during high school and college. At 19, I chose to pursue a different path than the medical or dental careers expected of me and ventured into esthetics. Now, I thrive as an esthetic educator, managing my solo business and skincare line, Glow by Bea.
A pivotal moment in my journey was when I realized that my practice, which primarily treats melanated skin tones, needed skincare products that truly catered to the unique needs of this clientele. Many products on the market either weren’t effective or didn’t address the specific concerns of hyperpigmentation, sensitivity, and uneven skin tone that I frequently saw in my clients. That’s when I knew I had to create Glow by Bea.
The process of developing the line was far from easy, but I was determined to formulate products that were inclusive and beneficial for melanated skin. The challenges were many—from ensuring the right balance of active ingredients to finding trustworthy manufacturers—but the driving force behind my resilience was knowing that there was a real gap in the industry for these types of products. Creating a line that provides real results for my clients has been a deeply rewarding experience, and it’s why Glow by Bea is so personal to me.
Breaking away from family expectations as an Asian American woman in business wasn’t easy. Overcoming stereotypes required resilience, continuous learning, and surrounding myself with like-minded individuals. I’m proud to have built a career that reflects my authenticity while helping my clients and inspiring the next generation of estheticians.
Beyond my professional life, therapy has played a significant role in my personal growth. It’s helped me develop vulnerability and self-compassion—two things that are often overlooked in our culture. By sharing my journey, I hope to encourage others to embrace self-care, both physically and emotionally, and to break free from societal expectations to carve out a path that feels right for them.
I believe in the power of mindset, self-care, and vulnerability. Despite the complexities, my journey is one of resilience and cultural identity, and I hope it inspires others to pursue their unique aspirations with confidence and grace.
