We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Beast Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Beast below.
Beast, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
The Legacy I’m hoping to continue to build, is one that is unforgettable. With my talents, I plan to capture art in it’s essence form, in vibrant way. My art/images are full of colors, but more importantly when you see my images you can feel them.
When things are all set and done I want the world to know and remember, “You to can do it too”. Coming from one of the toughest parts of Brooklyn New York, it isn’t common to make it out. Sometimes growing up in those environments, you become a product of that environment. So to make it out is very slim, especially being a creative, but I am living proof that you can, if you just put your mind to it and grind it out and put that work in.
I think when the lights go out, I know that people will say; Beast was one of those ones, and he knew. He stood on business, he stood on morals and never changed.
Beast, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Beast Williams. I am a celebrity photographer based in LA.
I got into photography/art at young age. Prior to, I was a dancer in Brooklyn. Battling and preforming in different cities, on different stages such as BET, TedEx, Battlefest etc. In doing so I was always in front of the lens, and one day I said to myself; ” I would what it would be like to be behind the lens”. And I did just so. I went to college for film making and fall in love with photography.
What sets me apart from others are a few different reasons. Being from Brooklyn, I’ve learned to have a hustle most people don’t have. It also made me into a man who stand on realness and morals, and you can’t really teach that.
One thing I am most proud of is, making my mother proud, taking a leap of faith and moving to LA to push & follow my dreams. My mom was very old school, so being the creative in the family wasn’t the easiest. And she didn’t believe at first. I remember when I told her, ” Hey I think I want to be a Photographer”. She said, ” You want to make a living from taking pictures? With a camera? Okay I guess”. She then went on to buy me my first camera. And thru the years of working hard I’ve became the success photographer and man that I am today. And my most proudest moment in life was when she was in telling someone about her kids. She said, ” My daughters are teacher, one of my daughters a lawyer, oh and my youngest son is a celebrity photographer, he travels the world taking pictures of all the big celebrities”.
My dance name when I was younger was BeastBoy, but once I turned 17 I dropped the Boy and added my last name Williams. And I did that for a few reasons but the most important reason was carry my last name with honor and let the world know I’m a WILLIAMS.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I can’t tell you how to build a crazy audience on social media, because I don’t have one. But I can tell how to build a audience in your city/ the world you want to build in.
I have a audience of about over 7.5k on social, but I have over well over 1 million impressions on social. And that comes from getting in with community you want to be in and hustle. Find people that are in your field and build a network that helps each other.
I’ve been blessed to shoot with Jay-Z, Beyonce, LeBron, Terrence J and the list goes on and on. And that came from getting in these circles and being me and hustling. Showing that I’m young but i’m here to work and I’m here to stay. And most importantly I’m here to learn.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped building my reputation in my market is that I’m low-key and I move with purpose. I’ve never wanted to be the loudest person in the room. That gets you nowhere, but label as someone who thinks they know it all. Your movements have to be purposeful, you have to move with intention. And when you don’t have a clear move to make, stay calm and have a listening ear so that you can navigate your next move, to be a smart move.
