We caught up with the brilliant and insightful BC Naps a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, BC thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I lost my father at a young age so I was mainly raised by my mother and sisters. My mom was very strict and I always thought it was for no reason. Now that I’m older I realize it’s because of that, I’m becoming successful. My mom worked hard for every penny she had when I was growing up. From as far as I can remember my mother has always made sure that I understood the value of money. It didn’t matter if we had $20 or we were up $500k, I understood that no matter what, never take it for granted. Now as an artist I understand every royalty I earn to never underestimate it or take it for granted. As an artist I understand the value of the music I release and how it reflects me. To come to that realization, I owe my mother and sisters the world.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is BC Naps. I was born in Hollywood FL, April 11th 2001. I come from a Haitian background as both of my parents were born in Haiti. Music is a big part of Haitian culture. Growing up my family always had large parties that would go on til 4/5 am blasting Kompa (Haitain Music). These parties were always a vibe so music in general is tied with astounding memories for me. I know how music made me feel and I wanted to make music that made other people feel the same way. I made music all through high school but never pushed it because I was scared my mom was going to find out. Turns out, my mom supports me being a musical artist 100%. Ever since having my family’s blessing I’ve been able to open up and become a much better artist. I make music that will make a 9-5 feel like you’re Jeff Bezos working at Amazon or Elon Musk working at Tesla. My music makes you feel like you run everything. If you know me though, the best part about my music is that I’ll remind you to stay humble and remember what we came from. Im proud of where I am but not comfortable. I can’t believe that I’ve met and built relationships with artists that me and my friend used to look up to in school. It’s only crazy until it happens. Right now I have a new song on the way called “Can’t Believe” that I can’t wait for my fans to hear. Until then everyone can stream my latest release “Momma Boy” on all platforms. Without my mother I wouldn’t be nearly where I’m at today. I Love You Momma, thank you.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In the music industry there’s a lot of performing and attending clubs and party events. It’s easy to forget that you’re working and not there to party. I had to take a moment to separate work from pleasure and focus building relationships and growing my fanbase while at these clubs or events.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being an Artist is being able to get paid for doing something I love. I’ve always wanted to take care of my family but being able to do it by making music makes it so much more rewarding.
