We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bassador (Baass) Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bassador (Baass), thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I think the first time I wanted to become good at my craft of rhyming is when I was young and I saw my friends doing it from their own creative minds. The first thing I did to learn was basically learning other lyrics from mainstream artists and getting use to saying and performing the lyrics as if they were my own. Shortly after that, maybe a year or two later I started to learn how to make my own lyrics. It took a lot of practice and I still have to sharpen my skills everyday.

Bassador (Baass), love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the creative industry early on as a kid because I always liked to create (ex: drawing, beat box, dance and music.) I believe I’m very different than most artists because I compose music differently each time based on my current feelings when creating. First and foremost, I’m just a music guy and I listen to mostly all genres of music.. most of my music is based on my life story and my life as I currently live it. I have something for everyone who listens to music I believe. My Merch of T’s, sweatshirt and hoodies is always based upon relatable slogans and visual captures of life today. RMG12MUSIC is my brand and it’s more so a representation of self success in my own personal life. Telling my story through creative art makes me happy and I hope you will enjoy my brand.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think people need to search other areas to find good music that is not mainstream. Because just listening to the radio’s and seeing ads that promote mainstream doesn’t give the listeners a true perspective of what’s out here music wise. Independent artists are always the ones who plays in your streaming app right after you finish listening to a favorite artist of yours. Don’t be so quick to skip or cut it but instead, give more of a listen sometimes and you just might find your next artist that you like. Give it a chance by taking a listen and searching for what’s new

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I became a hustler early on in my life and I really never gave myself a fair chance at legit success. But in my journey of that faze of my life. I group up with a few guys and created a group (Embassy Corporation.) fast forward, I got so close to landing my first record deal with my group with MCA records. Unfortunately my paperwork wasn’t in order and the delays of me responding in a timely fashion diminished my chances to sign with a major. I definitely learned a big lesson from that and from that experience, I knew I was good enough to be great so I never stopped creating after that. I took it as a sign that this is what I was meant to do with my life.
