Basiliso, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I was a already a licensed Zumba instructor in 2018. After my mom passed away from Covid during the start of the pandemic in 2020, I began writing what would become my poetry book, Triumph Through Pain: How to Maximize Your Full Potential During Hard Times.

I saw many of my fellow social workers still providing services despite risking their lives. However I asked myself Who was there for us? I decided to use Zumba and poetry together and created BasCity Entertainment LLC in October 2020.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

BasCity Entertainment LLC is your home for holistic self care featuring poetry and Zumba for social workers, teachers, nursing. The featured product is Triumph Through Pain: How to Maximize Your Full Potential During Hard Times. It is a 30 page poetry book discussing themes such as grief, loss, anxiety, and financial literacy. These themes are not normally discussed in our black and brown communities. I wrote it after lossing 10 social work clients and my mom from Covid.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

I initially and continue to fund my business from my 9-5 as a social worker working with adults diagnosed with HIV. I also was able to obtaining business credit.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?

My book is also available on Amazon. However I am not able to see who purchased my book in order to follow up with promotions I may have.
