Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bartosz Beda. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bartosz, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The “Echoes of Seasons” solo exhibition I unveiled in October of 2023 is one of the most momentous projects in my artistic practice. This exhibition displayed my work and an in-depth personal exploration that bridged my reflections on the cyclical nature of existence with broader societal narratives.
The inspiration for “Echoes of Seasons” originated from an impactful moment of discovery. During a routine search online for my next painting series, I found photographs capturing the poignant voyages of families navigating the complex path across the US-Mexico border. These images, portraying the struggles and hopes of immigrants seeking a better future, resonated intensely with my experiences as an immigrant and an artist. They prompted a deep contemplation on the themes of migration, transformation, and the passage of time—themes that became the cornerstone of the exhibition.
The “Echoes of Seasons” series encapsulated the metaphorical transition through life’s seasons, exploring the ingrained changes, challenges, and continuities that characterize the human condition. Each exhibition piece reflected the delicate balance between the external world’s transiency and the unchanging essence of our inner landscapes. The artwork explored the universal experience of navigating life’s ebbs and flows, echoing the natural world’s cycle of renewal and decay.
This exhibition was meaningful because it allowed me to weave together the personal and the universal, the secret and the collective. It was an opportunity to engage with the audience sincerely and emotionally, inviting them to reflect on their experiences through the seasons of life. “Echoes of Seasons” was not just an artistic attempt; it was a dialogue that outstretched beyond the canvas to touch on the core of our shared human experience.
In creating “Echoes of Seasons,” I undertook a journey transcending the boundaries of traditional art exhibitions. It was a project that challenged me to confront and communicate the complexities of existence, the beauty of change, and the resilience of the human spirit. This exhibition, set against the backdrop of my own migration story, became a statement of the power of art to connect, question, and celebrate the in-depth echoes that resonate across seasons and through time.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Bartosz Beda, an artist born in Poland in 1984 and currently residing in Dallas, Texas. My wander into the art world was both a calling and a gradual discovery. At the age of seven, inspired by my brother and the works of Van Gogh and Salvador Dali—who share the same birth date as me, in conjunction with a different era—I found my passion in painting. This early fascination with art led me to pursue formal education in the field, first at Fine Art Secondary Art School in Poland, then the Manchester School of Art in the UK, and later through scholarships and fellowships that allowed me to study and work across Europe and the United States.
My work primarily revolves around oil paintings, focusing on abstract and figurative themes. I explore the complexities of human experience, the nuances of social and historical narratives, and the reflection of personal identity and migration. My creative process is intensely influenced by my background as a Polish immigrant, an aspect that enriches my art with a unique perspective on belonging, change, and the essence of human resilience.
My ability to weave convoluted stories through vibrant and dynamic visual language sets me apart. My paintings are visual experiences and invitations to explore the deeper, often unspoken domains of human sentiment and thought. I provide artworks and gateways to study and philosophical inquiry, allowing viewers to confront and reflect on their inner landscapes and the world around them.
I’m most proud of my ability to maintain a resonant connection to my roots while exploring universal themes that echo across cultures and experiences. My solo exhibitions, such as “Echoes of Seasons,” highlight my commitment to addressing global narratives through a unique lens, reflecting on themes like migration, the cyclical nature of existence, and the perpetual quest for meaning.
For potential collectors, followers, and fans, I want you to know that my art is a dialogue. This conversation transcends the boundaries of traditional painting to touch upon the core of shared human experience. Each piece reflects a personal and collective process and an invitation to explore the myriad dimensions of life and art. My art is built on authenticity, exploration, and the relentless pursuit of painting excellence.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the connection it allows me to establish with others through the universal language of art. It’s about transcending barriers and touching the core of human experience, offering myself and viewers a mirror to our inner worlds.
Creating art—translating intangible feelings, thoughts, and experiences into something visual and tangible—is an enriching journey. It’s about the joy of discovery and exploration, not only of the medium and techniques but also of myself as an individual and artist.
Moreover, witnessing people engage with my work, interpreting it through their lenses, and finding their meanings and connections reinforces the significance of what I do. Knowing that my art can offer comfort, provoke thought, or bring beauty into someone’s life is incredibly fulfilling.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Indeed, the writings of Seneca, particularly his musings on time management, have shaped my approach to both life and my artistic practice. Seneca’s comment, “It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it” resonates with me. This principle has guided me in prioritizing my duties and concentrating my energy on what truly matters—creating art that speaks to human circumstances and connects with others meaningfully.
Moreover, Seneca’s writings have underscored the importance of reflection and self-awareness in my personal and professional growth. They remind me to evaluate my path regularly, observe progress, learn from setbacks, and seek a balance that enables my creative spirit and ambitions.
