We recently connected with Barry Steven Greff and have shared our conversation below.
Barry Steven, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I started being creative as a young child, initially drawing. When I (thought) I won a drawing Contest it boosted my confidence. Eventually, I recognized that I liked to Photograph things (watching my Parents with their Cameras on Vacations). I began to shoot under water in Colege in the FL Keys at University of Miami.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was first published in a Magazine in 1992. That publication boosted my confidence and caused me to reach higher in the Photography World. I eventually began to submit my Work to Fine Art Galleries and eventually began getting accepted. Between the Magazines, some Advertisements and the, the Art Galleries, it was clear that my Photography was being accepted by important outlets. Eventually, National Geographic published one of my images on their Website. Then Canon Cameras USA purchased an image then the largest Advertising Company in the World at the time, Ogilvy & Mathers purchased an image for an entire wall in one of their main offices. Considering that they deal with hundreds of Photographers on a daily basis, that meant a great deal to me.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I showed my Work to some major people in the Photography World. Others were intimidated, but I went straight to the biggest people, the toughest critics….and I continually impressed them. Even if the result was not immediate, I was resilient and eventually things started to happen for me. Two years after meeting with a Gallerist in New York, they reached out to me and I had a Solo Exhibition on Central Park West in New York City. As I write this article, I have been recently contacted by a very Fine Art Gallery in and exclusive location in South Florida. Speaking of resilience, I first introduced myself to them literally decades ago. They just now reached out and have submitted some of my Work to one of their very high-end Clients.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Seeing my Work in multiple Art Galleries at the same time and having many Collectors from, not only the US, but as far away as Australia. Beauty knows no boundaries.
