We recently connected with Baron Paris and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Baron thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The “Tree of life” is a series of paintings created after a royal doll house. It was a commission for Robert Couturier, the designer for a residence in NYC.
Inspired by the stairhall painting in the late Queen Elizabeth’s dollhouse designed in 1924, by Sir Edwin Luytens, the “tree of life” series depicts a pre-biblical scene featuring a genealogical tree adored by flora and fauna. The animals frolic together in a peaceful landscape speckled with white flowers, delicate plants, and gentle streams.
Each painting is presented hanging like a tapestry, in a nomadic way, they are meditation tools, leading you into a inner world, opening to another view and other thoughts.
From those paintings, were created wallpapers and prints, presented at BaronParis.art
Our motto is “art is life”, we are here to bring art in your life, to help create a new setting, for new thoughts and feelings.
Art is an agent of transformation, for ourselves and others, from those around us and the society.
It’s also a healing tool, as it help us connect with ourselves in a deeper way.
Baron, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Baron Paris is a Franco American artist based in California.
Paris was born and raised in Paris, from a lineage of artists, writers and militaries, He studied Art and Philosophy in college and opened his studio in 1984, Over the years, he continues to create many world-class art projects, both within the United States and abroad.
His focus is mainly on painting, mural, wallpaper, sculpture and straw marquetry. We create murals and wallpapers for entire house or one room, from walls to ceiling and floors, anything needed to transform any space.
Paris is also an expert in straw marquetry, an antique veneer technique, used for frame, furniture or wall treatment.
Paris has remained faithful to his artistic commitment and aesthetic values. The freedom to create, the constant quest for beautiful materials merging into creations that will enlight us,”art is life”, it shapes our life, it is the seed of a transformative power, to reflect and renew.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me to be an artist is a vocation, a childhood decision, an early understanding of the magical power of art, you can connect with yourself and others, each piece is a portal offered to the world.
Each art piece has it’s own presence, some are meditative, others are dreamy, some others rythmic and so on.
I believe that art carries a transformative power, on the artist, while he creates the piece and on the viewer who creates his own piece in return. Same for the energy in a space, what is on the wall has a big impact.
Art is attractive by the effect it has on us, through a daily practice, you are allowed to wander in the landscape of your imagination, you know how to dream about things, but you know also how to realize them, how to give a physical form to a thought. The technical process is connected to scale and materials and can vary from small objects, to large scale murals. There is always complex and engaging questions to be solved along the way.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
– A good formation, post graduate in Philosophy at Paris X-Nanterre, trained at The Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts, Paris, France and Van der Kelen Institute, Brussels, Belgium. – An eye, I was lucky to be surrounded by art very early on, as a child, we would go with my family to the Louvre, to see my great great father’s paintings and with the time you built your own vision, based on all you have seen and studied.
– I’m working on multiple mediums, oil and acrylic paintings, with multiple tools including spray cans, stencils, templates.
I like to see the artist as an orchestra men, with many abilities, but he could be also a magician, or a healer.
-To be an expert in Straw marquetry, an antique veneer technique, adapted to our contemporary world. The straw is organically grown in France, it’s a sustainable material, with an amazing power to reflect light! it will light up any space and bring a sense of peace and warmth.
-The understanding of how to work with a team and within a schedule, and to achieve the best result.
