We recently connected with Barış Fert and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Barış, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My current film project holds profound significance for me. Set in Ankara during 1997, it unfolds the narrative of a grieving family amid their mourning process. Throughout the film, we closely follow the 8-year-old protagonist Başak, immersing ourselves in her world. Ultimately, as life persists, the story encapsulates the resilience of the human spirit. I believe this film will resonate with anyone, who experienced childhood in the ’90s—a true cinematic representation of the Y generation.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a screenwriter and film director. I have directed numerous music videos, commercials, and short films. My first feature film, ‘A Guide To Living For The Dead,’ was selected for the Frontières platform at the Cannes Film Festival – Marché du Film 2022 and premiered at the 42nd Istanbul Film Festival in the National Competition.
When I pick up a camera, I become the happiest person in the world. The film set is the place I always wanted to be on Earth. Therefore, I am quite passionate, and I never give up on what I pursue. As a director, I encounter many challenges, and I try my best to overcome all of them. This is my playground, the playground that I love…
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’m going to be very honest. Through cinema, I find solace in life.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It makes me feel alive.
