We were lucky to catch up with Barbara Santiago recently and have shared our conversation below.
Barbara , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new venture – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
I had heard about gig salad. And I decided to post my business there. And my first client booked me through gig salad. It was for her daughter’s baptism. That was the first time really. I was making money and I was nervous, nervous that it wouldn’t come out right or it wouldn’t be perfect. It turned out great. It was an awesome experience and that was back in 2017 and until this day, she is still one of my number 1 clients and friend.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into this business. Because I used to be a model when I was 5 years old until I was 16. .I was always in front of the camera and I decided I wanted to behind the camera wanted to try it out. So I started taking pictures at the age of 17 of anything my family, animals, nature anything I could take a picture of I would. I offer a range of packages. I do weddings, baby showers, maternity’s birthdays family sessions, Christmas sessions, fall sessions I do a little bit of everything. What sets me apart? I believe is I have an advantage of being a model in the past. And knowing how to pose my clients. What I’m most proud of is I did 2 non-profit events. One of them was Miami children’s and the host of it was Antonio Banderas and the second non-profit event that I did that I’m super proud of is St Jude. What I want my clients to know is that I will always take care of you and put you guys first once you are my client, it’s like your family. From the start of the proyes, i’ve given you ideas of giving you places where to take your pictures every little detail. I like to make sure that you’re happy and satisfied with my services And my pictures that will last you a lifetime. I love capturing memories for my clients. That’s the most important thing because in photography freezing That moment, you are just saving it forever. And you can look back at it whenever you want. It’s the most important part, Watching your kids grow every year. When you take your Christmas pictures with me Or you take family sessions with me It’s so important. Because those memories will always last lifetime.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My dream and my goal has always been to be a photographer for Vogue. I’m a huge fan of vogue and I would lo be able to reach that goal of being a photographer for them before when I was younger. One of my dreams was to be featured, but as a model.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What I think has helped me is word of mouth that’s very important in this industry of photography that your client is so happy and so satisfied with the service you provide plus the photographs that you give them your pricing the way you treat them from beginning to end. That’s the most important thing word-of-mouth that your clients refer you to as many people. Also never give up because there are times you think about it and I have thought about you don’t give up on your dreams just keep pushing. Until you accomplish what you want. And thank God I have accomplished a lot..
