We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Barbara Kris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Barbara below.
Barbara , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
One of the craziest, most pivotal moments in my business came when I was burned by someone I trusted; a friend and partner I’d worked closely with.
We had projects together, shared commitments, invested time, energy, even money — and then, like it was “nothing important”, it all fell apart.
Broken promises.
No discussion.
No acknowledgment of everything I put in.
To this day, it’s as if that partnership never existed.
At first, it was devastating.
It wasn’t just the practical loss – it was the emotional gut-punch of realizing, “Wow, what do I do now?”
But that eye-opening and tough experience forced me to rise.
It pushed me to stop playing small, to stop blending my voice into someone else’s, and to build a business that was fully mine — grounded in my unique take on women’s health and wellness.
I left my corporate job in 2015 because I was burned out and felt like I was losing myself.
And 5 years later I was dealing with another life-changing moment.
But now, I know these experiences happened “for me” and because I’ve walked through these hard moments, I can help other women navigate their own so much better.
I didn’t just build a coaching business — I have a purpose, a message, and a method that comes from lived experience.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Absolutely!
I’m Barbara Kris – a women’s nutrition and weight loss coach specializing in helping high-achieving women over 40 break free from burnout, rebuild their energy, and finally achieve sustainable success with their bodies and health.
But here’s what I want people to know up front:
I’m not just a coach.
I’m a woman who’s lived it.
I spent nearly two decades in a high-pressure corporate aerospace career, juggling deadlines, a long commute, and the relentless demand to prove myself.
I know what it feels like to be outwardly successful but secretly exhausted and burned out.
Later, I became an IFBB Pro bodybuilder; thinking discipline and extreme control were the path to fulfillment.
But even that taught me a crucial truth: sustainable success is never found in extremes.
What truly set me free, and what I now help other women reclaim – was learning to honor my body, my mind, and my worth in a way that’s rooted not in proving, but in alignment.
And although I don’t share this often, at the center of that transformation was my faith.
God brought me back to myself; helping me rediscover my value, my purpose, and the deeper “why” behind everything I do today.
In my business, I’m a speaker and I provide 1:1 coaching for women 40+, as well as free resources like my guide “Finally Ditch the Diet” – because most women in this season don’t need another quick fix they’ll never use.
They need a proven, compassionate method that helps them rebuild trust in themselves, break the burnout-sabotage cycle, and lead themselves powerfully again.
What sets me apart is that I know exactly how it feels to live in that gap:
Between knowing what to do … but not following through.
Between being strong for everyone else … but secretly wondering if you’re too far gone.
Between craving change but … fearing you’ll fail again.
I’m proud of the fact that I’ve helped so many women not just lose weight or gain energy, but completely transform how they see themselves.
Because when a woman learns to lead herself again, she becomes unstoppable.
For anyone discovering me for the first time, here’s what I want you to know:
I’m not here to sell you discipline or perfection.
I’m here to help you build a life, a body, and a mindset that’s designed to last.
And if you’re ready to break free from the burnout loop and reclaim the woman you know you’re meant to be; I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was holding myself to the impossible standard of perfection; thinking I had to have the perfect plan, know all the answers, and be fully prepared.
My background in engineering made this mindset especially tough to shake.
I was trained to anticipate every risk, solve every problem, and create flawless systems.
But in life and especially in entrepreneurship, that rigid need for certainty was holding me back.
It created so much unnecessary second0guessing and self-doubt.
I get caught up in the endless loop of, “I can’t move forward until I’ve perfected everything.”
But here’s the truth I learned:
Clarity comes through action, not overthinking.
And here’s what’s even better:
The women I work with – the ones who achieve the most transformational change are the ones who go after what they want despite being afraid.
They act quickly, they take ownership, and they don’t let the fear of imperfection hold them back.
So for me, unlearning perfectionism wasn’t just a personal breakthrough, it became a core lesson I now help my clients apply in their own lives.
The truth is, sustainable success, whether in health, business, or life – doesn’t come from having the perfect plan.
It comes from being courageous, taking imperfect action and trusting that the path will unfold as you go.

Have you ever had to pivot?
A major pivot for me happened during COVID.
I just started coaching small groups and one-on-one in person and was starting to build momentum when everything shut down.
At first, I thought, “This won’t last long.”
But when I realized the change was here to stay, I was determined to find a way to make it work.
I knew I couldn’t give up just because things got hard – my purpose to help women reclaim their health and energy was too important to me.
I remember logging into my first few Zoom calls thinking, “There’s no way people will want to work with me like this.”
But to my surprise, going 100% online didn’t just sustain my business, it helped expand it.
Soon I had clients all over the U.S, even in Australia and Canada.
But what I’m most proud of is that I made something out of seemingly nothing.
That pivot didn’t just prove that I was tough, but also that I’m a great coach!
And no challenge can take away the heart and mission behind my work.
