We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Barbara Caison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Barbara , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

My mission as a children’s book author and educational content creator is to inspire a love for language, culture, and exploration. Learning a new language isn’t just about words—it’s about opening doors to new perspectives, fostering deeper connections, and creating a sense of belonging.

This mission is personal. I was born in Peru and moved to the U.S. at 12, navigating the challenges of adapting to a new language and culture. That experience shaped my passion for language learning, cultural discovery, and travel. I know how transformative it can be to see the world through different lenses, and I want to bring that experience to others through my books and educational content.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I’m a children’s book author and educational content creator with a deep passion for language, culture, and travel. That love started early. When I moved to Miami at 12, I was fascinated by how cultures and languages blended in everyday life. Even though Spanish was widely spoken, every accent and tradition told a different story.

That passion for culture and connection guided my path. I earned a BA in International Relations and an MA in International Preservation, originally planning for a career in the international field. But life led me to teaching. As a Spanish teacher at a private school in North Carolina, I saw firsthand how language could transform the way students saw the world. I had the privilege of taking students on international trips. To have students experience new cultures was incredible, but I also knew not everyone had that opportunity to do so. I wanted to find ways to bring that experience to more people, no matter where they were.

That’s what led me to write books and create educational content. Through The Spanish Connections, I collaborate with educators and content creators from different Spanish-speaking countries to develop engaging resources that go beyond vocabulary and grammar. My books use storytelling to transport children to different parts of the world, making learning an adventure.

What sets my work apart is that it’s not just about teaching a language, it’s also about learning about the culture and the people.

I’m most proud of the impact my work has had on families and educators worldwide. Seeing my books reach classrooms and homes across different countries is a constant reminder of why I do this.

For anyone just discovering my work, my goal is simple: to spark curiosity, encourage connection, and make learning an exciting journey.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Yes, absolutely. My creative journey is driven by the mission to make language, culture, and exploration accessible to children everywhere. I believe that learning a new language isn’t just about memorizing words—it’s about connecting with people, traditions, and stories from different parts of the world. My mission is to inspire curiosity, foster empathy, and spark a love for learning by showing people how vast, diverse, and interconnected the world truly is.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Reaching people all over the world is truly one of the most rewarding aspects of my creative journey. Knowing that my books and educational content are being shared across borders and impacting families and educators in different corners of the globe is incredibly humbling. It’s one thing to create something locally, but when it resonates with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, it feels like the work I’m doing is truly making a difference.

Through language, culture, and storytelling, I’m able to connect with others in ways that go beyond physical distance. This sense of reaching beyond borders and touching lives across the world is what keeps me motivated and passionate about what I do.
