We recently connected with Barbara Baez Robinson (BabarazziPhotos) and have shared our conversation below.
Barbara, appreciate you joining us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
It began by taking photos of my husband’s band at all his shows. Other bands began to notice my work, and wanted to hire me to take photos for them as well. After a couple of years, I realized that photography has a lot of business potential. That is when I decided to do this full-time. While I was still working as a medical biller, I began to lay the foundation for my business. I trademarked my name BabarazziPhotos and filed for my DBA. To continue my studies in my career, I am working on my Bachelors in Fine Arts & Digital Photography.
Barbara, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am BabarazziPhotos® and I am here to take photos of any special events, commercial projects, artists, families, etc. I have been a professional photographer for more than 4 years and have captured many amazing moments at various events from Quinceañeras, Weddings, Concerts, etc. I also do one on one photo sessions from infants to graduation photos. It is important to me to always start & end my sessions with honesty, attention to detail, and fun! I enjoy capturing significant moments in my clients’ lives while being creative. I’m inspired by the beauty of this world and its people. Documenting these moments of love, adventure, and happiness has become a fulfilling part of my career. My photography has been on magazine covers (KeyLine Mag), articles for musicians (Legacy Magazine), and also used for advertising by Soultone Cymbals and Solar Guitars. I also had a piece on exhibition at the Florida Museum of Photographic Art (FMoPA) in Tampa, Florida. I do have a fun fact for you. I have worked with many different people, and at many different events. But my two favorite subjects are musicians and kids. They’re complete opposites of each other, but both are so much fun and creative!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
So, as I was saying above, I always enjoyed taking photos and capturing special memories. So, throughout the years I have collected many moments of friends and family to the point where my loved ones usually asked me to take photos of these occasions. That’s how I started helping my husband’s band, Blood of Angels in the metal community. And like that I started going on tour around the county with him and other bands. That’s why my photos have been in a several magazines & websites. My key milestone was when I was hired to go on the road for 6 weeks for a tour and I really had to make a choice… keep a career that didn’t satisfy me anymore or try running my own business. I’ve been paying with the idea for a while. I’ve been a medical biller since I was 19 years old (was even in management) but I found myself after 16 years not happy with my career. I have a degree in business… why not use it to run my own business in the field I do love! Well, you know the rest! So, when you need a photographer that understands how important it is to capture those special moments, know that BabarazziPhotos is here for you!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The reactions! My client’s reactions are what makes this all fulfilling! I love seeing how surprised and excited they get when they see the results! Even when they love my other work, there is something different when they see themselves or a loved one in one of my photos. They are so grateful. Knowing that they will always have that moment in time saved because of me makes me so happy!
