We recently connected with Barb Jordan and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Barb thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My sister was engaged to a man who had served in the Marines, he was working on his 3rd Masters Degree at Cal State Northridge, and had a job in Aerospace at Litton, in Woodland Hills, Ca. I was surprised when they were engaged after only 3 months, as my sister Beverly was a very strong, successful and a confident women. OnThanksgiving Day, Rich came to our house to join our family for the holiday festivities. We played Trivial Pursuit, and played catch with the football with him and all of my brothers in the front yard. 4 days after that Thanksgiving, I was on my college campus at Cal State Northridge, it was nighttime and I was in the gym cheering on my sorority in an intramural volleyball game. My college roommate came up from behind me and emphatically told me that I needed to go home right away, and that something had happened to one of my sisters. I had twin sisters that were 7 years older than I. I knew at that moment, that something was tragically wrong. When I got to my parents house and the front door opened, may parents told me that my sister Beverly was murdered, and her fiancé Rich Lewis, had committed the violent act.
We learned many things about Rich after he killed my sister. Many things, that he did not want us to know. He had been married and divorced twice by the age of 30, and that his former wife fled with their son in the middle of the night in fear for their safety. He had several aliases, and his real name was Eric Lewis. However, when the police investigated further, they found he had 2 SSN’s and 2 different names. He was arrested under the name Eric Lewis. In 2018 he was released from prison. Now of course in todays world he uses the name Rich Lewis, because if you google Eric Lewis, the murder will appear. When he was released from prison after serving 30 plus years, I thought to myself, there is him and so many others like him, that move about this world and blend into society and people do not know the difference. Since his release, he remarried within a couple of years or less. I launched my company, Always Bev in the fall of 2018, with the mission to educate and create awareness about predatory behavior. My passion behind this is that I never want any one to ever experience the ripple effect of trauma that my family has lived with for years. I believe that before violence occurs, there are warning signs. Rich Lewis and his manipulative ways educated me on how to never let our guard, and that intuition can play a keep part in keeping us safe!

Barb, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am 3X National Champion, 3 All American, have been a part of 7 gold medal winning teams for team use in the sport of softball. I have been a collegiate coach, coached as an assistant for team USA, became a broadcaster for professional softball for softball and now I am the founder and Executive Director of my Non Profit (c)(3), Always Bev.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe the success of my in person educational speaking events have helped earn my reputation. I am told 2 things often after people take my training course, “you are made to do this,” and “this course is life changing”.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My sister was killed in 1988. Between 1993 and 1995 I tried out for the 1996 Olympic Softball Team as they hosted various events. At the final tryout there were 66 women invited. I had the second highest batting average at that final tryout over a 5 day period. My performance was effortless and flawless. It seemed magical. When they named the final team, I was not on the Olympic roster of 15 players or 5 alternates. One player declined on being an alternate and that is when the Selection Committee added me to the team as an alternate. It was devastating for me. I thought I would bring my family joy after Bev was killed. It took all of my strength to perform as an alternate, after being so disappointed and left off of the official Olympic roster. I was again knocked down to my knees.
