Bao, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
Reflecting on my journey with Body Bling, I believe the timing of its launching was just right. In 2018, while balancing my role as a single mother and a career in the dental field, I was also competing as an NPC National Women’s Figure competitor. During my shopping adventures for competition jewelry, I noticed a significant gap in the market. High-quality pieces were either exorbitantly priced or made with subpar materials, leaving competitors like myself without suitable options. This realization sparked the idea for Body Bling—a brand dedicated to offering unique, affordable, and high-quality jewelry for female competitors.

Starting the business earlier might have found me lacking the insights and experiences that shaped Body Bling’s mission and values. Conversely, delaying its launch could have prolonged the frustration felt by many in the fitness community seeking quality competition jewelry. The timing allowed me to collaborate with high-end suit companies, incorporate vibrant colors into our designs, and establish Body Bling as a leading provider in the fitness community.

Looking back, I’m grateful for the path I’ve taken. The challenges and experiences leading up to 2018 equipped me with the resilience and vision necessary to create a brand that resonates with and supports female competitors. I firmly believe that Body Bling began at the perfect moment in my life’s journey.

I’m the founder of Body Bling Jewelry, a brand born from a personal need, a creative vision, and a deep love for the competitive fitness world. I’ve always believed that how we present ourselves—especially on stage—is a powerful expression of our identity and confidence.
My journey into this industry began organically through my own experiences as a competitor. While preparing for a show, I found myself frustrated by the lack of quality, affordable jewelry that matched the level of detail and effort we put into everything else—our suits, our posing, our training. I saw an opportunity to fill that gap, not just for myself but for other women who deserve to feel polished and powerful when they step on stage. That’s when I decided to turn that frustration into a solution—and Body Bling Jewelry was born.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What’s helped build my reputation within the market is a deep commitment to custom service and the genuine care I put into every single piece I create. From the beginning, Body Bling has never been about mass-producing accessories—it’s been about carefully curating unique pieces that reflect each competitor’s individuality, confidence, and stage presence.
What sets us apart is the intentionality behind everything we do. When a client comes to me, they’re not just selecting jewelry—they’re trusting me with a key part of their presentation. I take that trust seriously, and I make it a point to get to know my clients: What’s their show date? What colors and designs are they wearing? Do they prefer bold or simple? How will they wear their hair? Every detail informs the final look, and I style them as if I were styling myself for the stage.

Many of my clients are repeat customers, and a good portion of my growth has come through word of mouth and personal referrals, which to me is the highest compliment. The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been staying transparent, providing top-notch customer service, and truly standing behind my brand. I believe people connect with authenticity, and when clients know you genuinely care about their experience and satisfaction, they come back—and they refer others.
From day one, I’ve made it a priority to communicate clearly, deliver quality, and go the extra mile to ensure each customer feels valued and confident in their purchase. Whether it’s customizing pieces, offering styling advice, or making sure their order arrives in time for a big show, I treat every client like they’re my only client. That level of service, combined with consistency and integrity, has been the foundation of my growth.
