We recently connected with Bamboo Hu and have shared our conversation below.
Bamboo, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
My whole life is a risk, every step that I chose to walk was unusual, compared to the other peers. Learned piano and violin when I was just a little kid, and then became a hard-working student again, tried to go to the best film school in China but failed, decided to work very early then quit when I had a good chance to promote, and became a hard-working student again. It’s kind of like fate that all the decisions that I make unconsciously influence my life path, and I never regret it.

Bamboo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Nobody knows clearly about what should we do or who we should be until we try many options. I’ve tried many different characters like hip-hop dancer, photographer, and songwriter, but it all belongs to creative arts at least. Those are just the different ways to explore the world and express myself. I only find my existence has some meaning when I’m trying to tell someone something, like all the emotions, all the story, all the thinking. Maybe there’s someone who has the same struggle, same feeling, and he/she can be inspired by my works, have more courage to face all the challenges in their life, everytime I think of that, I’m just so proud of what I’m doing right now.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
It’s very important to cultivate people’s enthusiasm for the Arts, on the one hand, people will pay more to enjoy the creative works, which will give artists a good environment to survive, on the other hand, people’s aesthetic judgment will have a huge impact on artists, the market always provides the product that people want to have.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Having the feedback of the audience, watch them laugh or cry because of the work.
