We recently connected with Baljit Soul and have shared our conversation below.
BalJit, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I am MUCH HAPPIER being a creative! Although I do still have a regular 9-5 I’ll let you in on how I juggle both! My goal is to leave my 9-5 for good and do music full time. I am currently working in the healthcare industry making pacemakers! I work very long hours 5:30pm-5:30am!!!! Although the healthcare industry is the only industry I would be willing to stick to if music didn’t work out, I am so ready to hang it up! I love helping people and being apart of saving lives however my job knows music comes FIRST! I am honored though to have a company who has been more than supportive with knowing anytime I am booked for a show I WILL be taking off from work! That is a rule I have and will keep until I no longer have to worry about a regular 9-5 My job has definitely been very supportive of my music journey and my coworkers are always trying to find ways to come to shows lol unfortunately they are on work nights and the whole team can’t have off!!! I know I’m blessed because let’s be honest most 9-5 jobs would not care! However because music is my calling I have no choice but to true to it answer it and put it FIRST! When I’m on stage I’m still working through people I’m healing through music so again I am SAVING lives!!! I also keep my job because it helps me with my bills and responsibilities because we all know those don’t stop!! Also it helps with getting prepared for shows , video shoots , photo shoots, graphic designs etc As an independent artist I’m paying for all of that on my own until the big money starts to roll in!!! So, I’d say a 9-5 definitely isn’t a bad thing to keep while pursuing your passion just keep in mind a job will replace you with no time or thought so put your heart into your passion your calling give that YOUR ALL and just use your 9-5 as your clutch!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Where do I start!!! Lol!!! Well for starters I’m an east coast native! Philly to be exact!!! Music is something that runs through my veins literally! My momma , grandma, grandpa, and some of my aunts can sing on my momma side on my dad side I have a few musically inclined relatives as well!! Growing up though I was full time living with my momma so it was an everyday thing I always thank God for my mom introducing great music to us as children! I also knew I could sing that as a given! I also taught myself to play keyboard by ear at a very young age then years later I learned to read music because I pick r up the violin for about 3-6 years and in high school I learned to play the trumpet!!! Although I didn’t stick to those instruments I decided my voice would be my main focus!!! I never had professional training vocally I’d just listen and learn by always singing with my momma and gmom that was never ending !!! I am very proud of my journey growing vocally as well as mentally and emotionally with it! You always see the glamour part of artist lives but not really the tears , frustration, the wanting to give up, to people trying to shoot down your dreams! It’s TOUGH! I’ve wanted to throw in the towel MANY TIMES! When it’s your calling you can’t escape it, it’s also perfectly ok to take time off and explore different things as well!!! I will say this! Unfortunately your family-best friends will NOT be your supporters. STRANGERS WILL ! I know from experience do NOT let that discourage you just KEEP GOING !!!!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part for me is seeing/hearing my audience dancing , singing along, having an amazing time!!! That gives me a feeling words can NOT describe!!! When I get off stage and I’m meeting people and they’re telling me how I made them happy I made them cry I made them feel in the moment! I couldn’t ask for anything better!!!! I think I speak for 99.9% of us who get on stage and say those are all the most rewarding things as a performer

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Honestly my goal is to travel the world and sell out every show I book! My mission is to always touch souls! You have to learn that when you’re a singer when you’re on stage in front of any amount of people it’s not about SELF! You’ve gotta step out of your body and you have to connect with everyone under the sound of your voice ! When you do that it’s a magic that flows and that’s how u get those fun amazing nights!!! It’s not about fame or paparazzi it’s about letting your audience know this is a safe space to get lost in the music !
