We were lucky to catch up with BalJit Soul recently and have shared our conversation below.
BalJit, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Honestly I knew from a very young age I want to say maybe as young as 7! Since that age maybe even younger I had the mind passion and love for entertainment. I could always sing I’ve always had a unique voice and all day long it’s what I did! I remember every year my siblings and I would make our Christmas lists and unlike any other child mine was always a keyboard!! My parents were shocked the very first time I put that on my list and said “you better play this and you better not have us waste money” I had already known the “Santa” thing … Anyway lol needless to say they came through and I was a very happy soul Christmas morning! At that time I didn’t know how to read music so I would listen to all the songs I sang around the house and I’d learn to play them on my keys! Such a young age catching on to music by ear my parents were amazed but I think I amazed myself even more! Each year I asked for an even better one and they had no issue getting it !!! I then joined the music program in elementary school 3rd grade up to 6th grade!! That’s when I picked up the violin and learned to read music! I was still singing of course I had to sing for every school gathering assembly etc lol ! However learning to read music was a huge wow factor for myself , my parents , and my music teacher! I grew a new love for playing instruments and at the time Destiny’s Child “Survivor” was my biggest accomplishment I played it for an assembly once and the crowd went WILD!! From all of those little moments I knew I was chosen I was called I had no choice but to accept it a start claiming my spot as an entertainer!
Oh before I forget how could I!! We used to put on shows for my family right in the living room! I would be the choir director and pianist and my older sister was the dance instructor!!!

BalJit, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Philadelphia native !! Born and raised!! I have been living in Phoenix Arizona for the last 8 years!!I started a strong full out love for music I’m sure from in the womb! Growing up with a grandmother who sang and passed down the voice to her children it was inevitable! My mother would play all neo soul music and old school (to me it was) rap all day everyday! I would say because if that my taste in music started on the right path. I would sing all day long with my grandma mom and my aunt. Music was more than just something to turn on at the time I had no idea it was a healing tool. It wasn’t easy growing up I went through a lot of hard things and music is what kept me! It was my escape my happy my said my zone out my everything! As I grew older I would sing more and more and realize that I was teaching myself and preparing myself to be in front of crowds of people as a human jukebox! My grandma was the one who kept me prepared to do it in front of folk my mom was and is still shy lol I remember telling her “it’s ok you can be shy I GOT US” I wasn’t afraid to sing in front of anyone anywhere at anytime! It wasn’t until I ran into people who would say things like “singing doesn’t pay the bills” when I got discouraged! The more I heard that the more I had to pretend I wanted to be a doctor or lawyer (although I do have a passion for working in healthcare and I’ve been in that field the last 7years) I was so broken however that didn’t stop this song bird for too long!! Fast Forward I’m an adult now and I tell my mom again “I don’t belong here I’ve gotta go spread my wings and fly” I was always different and always picked music over outside! I hit 25years of age and life just flashed before my eyes ! That day I cried in bed and told myself buckle up it’s about to be a whole new experience!! I decided that whatever it took I was going to get out of my hometown and I was going to SING my way to the top!!! That next year was my ticket out and I didn’t even know yet! I was literally coming to Arizona to visit my uncle and work on a song (side bar he had challenged me to write my very first song) I had the biggest fear of writing at the time! So I’m packing my bags to come to Arizona I had no idea what to expect I had never been on a plane and although it was a “visit” I was applying for jobs before I even got here lol !!! I arrive in Arizona and let’s just say I have accomplished so many things that I would have never thought would really come true !! Not only have I gotten over my fear of writing I have at least 30 songs under my belt some released some not and some are on the way! My journey so far has been amazing I wouldn’t trade it for ANYTHING!!! Music is the universal language! Music is a healing power! Music is a source! Music is energy! I am MUSIC
When I am singing I’m literally sharing an out of body experience with everyone and thing around me. I always want people to know feel and understand I’m not doing it for me but for the soul connection! I want people to know this is the moment/s where it’s ok to let go get lost in the beauty of music. It’s not me before u it’s the healing the energy the vibrations and it’s ok to sing along to yell clap cry even sit in silence and take it in. I am on a mission that was assigned to me I’m single being obedient to my calling
I am most proud of my growth my courage my will power my struggles my rock bottom my fight my wisdom and every single song I have written!!!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe the biggest thing society NEEDS to do is… very simple .. Allow creatives to CREATE! There’s too many closed minded individuals thinking you have to stick to a script! CREATE is the key word ! There are no rules to being YOU ! Not everyone will love you for it and not everyone will dislike you for it.. Everyone has the RIGHT TO BE LOUD BOLD UNAPOLOGETIC and FREE!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal my mission is to simply travel the world and make create memories through my music ! To make life lasting soul connections through the universal language! I want people to remember me as a safe place someone who made them feel free
