Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Baley Bodden. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Baley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
I held two self-curated solo exhibits in Nashville and in Miami during Art Basel through the end of December last year. I really just wanted to show my work even if that meant making it happen on my own. I really enjoy hosting events and parties so curating a show that tells a story is something I have really enjoyed. There were definitely challenges in finding the right spaces and timing, but I have learned anything worth creating has it’s welcomed challenges and that is what makes the finished piece even that much more enjoyable. I am currently working on commission pieces and a new collection of work for Art Basel in December 2022 and I am proud to say my collections of work live at Gallery 23 NY in New York City. Most people see my work and find it provocative or scandalous. My heart behind the work is actually the opposite. When I see the couples kissing or being intimate in my paintings and drawings, I see couples committed relationships and married couples. People in love and dedicated to keeping their relationships alive through intimacy and connection. Raw, vulnerable moments that create value for the individual or the couple. I don’t think there’s anything sexier than two people completely immersed in one another, committed to doing whatever it takes to have the relationship work. Commitment is sexy.
Baley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Baley Bodden is a Nashville/New York based, self-taught artist who is held to be Nashville’s up and coming face of not only intimate pop art but a trail blazer in the feminine NFT space. As a powerhouse female artist and an avant-garde in all facets of social media marketing, she has formed into a global brand and uses her art to embody one to be unapologetic, sexy, and authentic. Bodden is paving the oh so glamorous passage ode to pop art for generations to come.
Bodden recently debuted her solo exhibition show in New York City, “In The Mood,” featuring muted pieces that convey sensual experiences taking the traditional shame away from the visceral moment. A few of her one of one pieces have been exclusively held from her solo Meatpacking show for their launch at the KAF exhibition in Seoul, Korea. During her month long stay in NYC, she emulated pieces that conveyed commitment though intimacy, which many will say is lost in our day in time.
Baley Bodden aspires to make an impact on lives throughout the world from Nashville to New York City to Seoul to Paris. Bodden wants to create a fortress of artistic messages to today’s society establishing that commitment and loyalty are sexy. This should be a learning lesson for all, as we move through this life and she is here to breathe that life back into our society through her most creative and artistic inhibitions.
Baley currently sells all original paintings, prints, merchandise such as sweats and tshirts, and custom wine bottles on her site www.BaleyBodden.com
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am currently pivoting in my business to more commission work. I have truly enjoyed getting to work with an individual for a piece of work in the personal homes or a business owner for their workspace.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
About 2 years ago, I decided to make my artwork business one of the top priorities. Since I was a child, I have always created artwork for myself and those closest to me, but when I had more to say with my artwork and felt it time to do so, it was easy to transition into the world of a full time artist. I started selling my work after the pandemic, putting together and curating solo art exhibits and now, focusing on commissions as my work is getting in front of more people. I would say the key milestones have been solo exhibits at this point. It has been the joy of my life seeing my collections come together and the story they tell.
