We were lucky to catch up with Bakari Blocton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bakari, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Things that my parents did right was making the decision to homeschool me once I became a creative. It’s helped me be more flexible when I have work so I don’t have to do as much school, even so, I still have to put in the work. In addition, they always let me come to their office with them and it has helped me to find out what running a business is like I use a lot of those skills in building my business and brand. So that really was not even a quarter of all the things that my parents have done for me, but those were the main ones that help me to this day.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
First off, I said I wanted to be on tv when I was two, but my mom seemed like she was not having it, I did not let that stop me and I’m glad I didn’t or else I would not be where I am today. My mom actually gave me a try at the age of four and we went to central casting to get headshots then I booked a few background jobs to start off and I loved it! After that, when I was six, I booked the photo double spot for Raising Dion and then I was on the move. My mom got me into training and I did not like the first one I went to but then she found another and I started warming up to it. Then the next thing I know the people that owned the place were talking about a showcase then I got a bit nervous at the end of the showcase though I got an offer from all the agents there and we ended up going with one. Right after the contract meeting then the Corona Virus hit and it all shut down. I felt sad and wasn’t feeling it anymore and still I kept going I ended up having a bunch of milestones like my first tv debut my first talk show. Then my mom found a new place for me to train called AGI and I ended up learning how to sing and dance and that is my whole story that’s how I got to where I am. Now I am working to become a big business owner and it is actually going well I’m really enjoying it. It is called BEAN and it is in celebration of my grandpa that I never really got to know. His nickname for me used to be bean and that is where I got the name from.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing is being able to see my own work and gain more exposure. For me it’s not always about the money. My biggest thing is becoming a better actor everyday and learning new things to help me out moving forward. I try everyday to be the best I can be no matter where I am what I am doing and that’s rewarding to me.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is just to fulfill my dream and show kids like me they can be whoever they want to be. To make our communities more uplifting fun and to have good vibes everywhere. I want it to be ZERO negativity in the world, because what is the point why be angry, and sad, and have bad vibes when we can be supportive, kind, and generous. So I want to change the world and make it a better place for EVERYBOBY and that is my main mission.
