We recently connected with Bailie Kate and have shared our conversation below.
Bailie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I would have definitely started my business even sooner. I think like most people, I was ok with being “comfortable” for the longest time. I was afraid to take that leap of faith and face the possibility of failing or not achieving the level of success I was hoping for. I think like a lot of people, during the pandemic I was able to re evaluate what is important to me and prioritizing my well being over what I had previously perceived as success. I had been at a very popular salon for 5 years, which was great at first, and I was incredibly busy. So what did I have to complain about, right? Well I was burned out, overworked, and didn’t have full creative control over what was important to me. I was at the point where I realized, I’d be willing to be half as booked, as long as I was happier. And little did I know I would end up being just as fully booked AND happier
Bailie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a hair stylist who specializes in Shag haircuts, razor cutting, bangs/fringe, and curly/wavy/natural texture hairstyles. Being a stylist who only cuts hair, and no color services, has given me 12 years to really specialize and refine my cutting craft. Having this niche cutting/styling style has really allowed me to not only do the kind of hair I love, but also allowed my kind of client to find me easily. My cuts speak for themselves and air dry like a dream
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being able to not only express myself at my job, but help other express themselves how they want to be seen
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is rough. It’s definitely not my favorite aspect of the job, but I’ve realized that it’s most successful when I’m being genuine. By posting what I want, and when I want. I don’t follow any schedule or content timeliness, which may make me slightly less successful in terms of followers, but it gets better reactions in my opinion. It’s a true representation of me and my art, and the user gets to know ME. Because I am a human, not a robot
