SubscribeAlright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bailey Young. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bailey, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission behind Bold Blooms Botanicals is one of acceptance, love in all forms, and authentically being yourself with expression through florals and design. I’ve been the black sheep for much of my life because I see the world from an introspective point of view where I speak with my throat and from my heart. I do everything from a place of passion and creativity. If I am not aligned with a client I typically won’t sign them as I want to ensure we connect on all levels. I want my clients to see me and go “That is my event stylist, my florist, and someone I feel safe talking to about my wildest design ideas with”. I’ve worked in the wedding and event industry for the last 3 years, going on 4, and the number of vendors I have seen shun other vendors and couples because they didn’t fit societal norms broke my heart. From same-sex couples to heavily tattooed people, the weird, the funky, and the fun I am here for it all. Country, boho, classic, I don’t judge anyone and I want my clients to experience a fantasy that brings their world to life.
Bailey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We offer event styling, design, interior decorating, and floral artistry. These are luxury options for people who do not have the time or the energy to do it themselves. We help ease the burden of planning, designing, and styling your home, office, or private events. From creating a list of vendors I recommend and doing all the legwork to designing the event, space, or home of your dreams we take the guesswork out of what you envision and bring it to life. We use the approach of finding your voice entwined with harnessing your human design. We ask the important questions – “How would you envision this”? “What are your goals with this space?” “What is the lasting impression you want to make”? “Is your home or office a safe space to create, grow, and bloom”? The environments we place ourselves in are so important for our mental well-being and physical health. We think about this not only from a design perspective but from a holistic approach as well. When your space, florals, and events are all aligned with your innermost feelings you will truly thrive.
I was diagnosed with demyelination disease back in 2021 and my world changed. I started this business to heal emotionally, mentally, and physically. Flowers and plants are naturally healing. They raise the vibration of any event, room, or building. My goal is to fill all the spaces I can with beautiful plants and flowers. Getting married, moving into a new home, or designing an office can be stressful. The one thing I have taken away from my event career is that a client relaxes a bit when they see flowers, plants, the vision, and eventually the finished product. We want people’s environments, parties, and lives to be brighter, calmer, and fulfilling. I wouldn’t be able to walk or talk again without plants and flowers. I spent my afternoons after being released from the ICU in my aunt’s backyard with the flowers and the sun learning how to walk without a cane and reteaching myself my lost memories and speech. Now, you can find me dancing among the wildflowers in the Spring and Summer, designing event spaces and interiors that are brighter, bigger, and better than I’ve ever imagined as well as enjoying the simple things in life–pouring the perfect espresso shot or lounging in my living room reading a book admiring the magic in our home.
I am most proud that I was able to launch and start this business within 2 years of being released from intensive care. I have been through many traumatic things in my life and I never thought I would be in the position I am now. Flowers and design have helped heal parts of me I no longer thought I could find again. I want my clients, followers, and fans to know that anything is possible no matter what hand you are dealt. I never thought I would heal after my son passed away, or that I would be able to walk and talk after being in the ICU and on a PIC line for over a month. I never thought that I would have a floral and design styling business where people believe in me and what I’m doing. I am one of the few LGBTQ-inclusive vendors in Boise, Idaho. That is something I am very proud of. Everyone should be shown love, treated kindly, and never turned away for who they are, what they look like, or the values they believe in. I have been and it is painful. I never want anyone to feel like they will be turned away for who they are. Those are my people.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I always thought Bold Blooms Botanicals would be a one-person show, but with the growth I’ve had over the last year, I have easily come to realize that I had to hire a team of girls to help me. I’ve outsourced help for my website because I need time to rest, out-sourced design help, and bounce ideas off my closest friends. I was never the person to rest and would do it all myself until I met a wonderful mentor who will always hold a special place in my heart, Kelli Geselle. She was always suggesting I rest. I was stuck in hustle and grind because that’s all I have known for years. I have had another influence in my life, Micah Smith, who always suggested the same thing. The universe speaks to us through other people or the same people in other bodies. This time I listened and I’ve been resting for almost 3 months before I pivot and hand my business off to people I can trust to help me get the heavy work done. It’s hard resting and letting go of your baby, but bigger things will happen with more like-minded people who see your vision and understand your heart.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that I needed to be willing to lean on people who hold my heart with diamond hands. Lean into love and watch what blooms from it. Not everyone is against you, and it’s necessary to forgive yourself for your past mistakes so you do not stay stuck in that space and accomplish nothing.
