We were lucky to catch up with Bailey Ward recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bailey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think first you have to define your definition to success. As an interior designer, for me success is creating beautiful spaces for others to enjoy while growing client relationships, and of course, maintaining healthy work/life boundaries. I strive to put my clients first and they are the reason I do what I do. Does recognition for my work feel good? Of course. But at the end of the day it is the people that I am designing these spaces for that really define whether I am successful or not. I will also say that it takes A LOT of hardwork and being willing to put yourself out there.
Bailey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an Atlanta-based interior designer providing full-service design and decoration. I work with clients to discover their personal style and create fresh, classic interiors for clients and their loved ones to make special memories in. I believe that beauty is as important as function, and I work to make that delicate intertwining a reality for each client. My work can be described as collected, curated, and chic, and I love to incorporate a splash of color among natural fibers and textures. I went to Mississippi State University where I majored in Interior Design and found myself in commercial interiors right after college. After 8 years of commercial design experience with multiple firms, I knew that this just wasn’t it for me. I was itching for something where I could be more creative and my entrepreneurial spirit (along with my husband’s encouragement) decided to jump into residential interiors and I have never looked back!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth! Do your best on every project, no matter how small the scope or budget. You never know where it will lead. I am so grateful my clients to continue to refer me to their friends and neighbors!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love when a project comes together! I dream up so many ideas in my head (mostly when I should be sleeping) and seeing those ideas come to life gives me so much energy. Each project poses different challenges, clients with varied preferences, etc. and it keeps things exciting. Just when I think I have designed my “favorite” project, another one comes along!
