We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bailey Vos. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bailey below.
Bailey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Jessica McKinney and I met at a large personal injury firm, where we were able to gain valuable experience and work hundreds of cases. Personal injury law has quite the reputation, and it’s sad because people injured in an accident genuinely need the type of help that we can provide.
Insurance companies want to save money, and that’s the bottom line. It’s never in their best interest to properly compensate someone if they can get away with paying less than what’s fair.
Jessica and I wanted to start a firm that put the client first. We wanted McKinney Vos to be there to help the client, no matter the level of help they needed. We created McKinney Vos to give every client a chance at justice after an injury from an accident. We treat our clients the same, whether it’s a small fender bender with minimal treatment, or a catastrophic injury. We pour ourselves into our cases, so every client knows we care and that we’re available to help them throughout the process.
McKinney Vos started to put the client before the bottom line, and two years in, we can proudly say that’s what we’ve done. Our mission has garnished more referrals and clients coming back, so we feel like it’s working!
Bailey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Bailey Vos. I’m from Grand Rapids, Michigan and I moved to Austin in 2016. In 2018, I met my business partner, Jessica McKinney, at a large personal injury firm.
Personal injury law is different from most other types of law. A personal injury attorney will take your case on a contingent basis. They will work your case without getting paid until the end, and they only get paid if there’s a settlement, so the risk to the client is very minimal.
At McKinney Vos, we help the client from start to finish after they’re injured in a car accident. We help open the insurance claim(s), navigate getting into a rental car and getting their car fixed, help facilitate getting to a doctor and how best to pay for those bills so they can be reimbursed, and anything else that comes up. We help you save your time and answer questions about the confusing process.
Once treatment is finished, we negotiate the injury claim for the client and help either reach a fair settlement or file a lawsuit.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Jessica McKinney had been working at the law firm I joined prior to opening our own business. We became friends quickly, and that friendship grew to extraordinary levels throughout the years. We became each other’s safe place for work stress, personal victories, and everything in between.
After some time, we started to wonder if we could open a law firm together. Starting a business with your best friend is risky, and we were both aware of the risks we were taking on.
We didn’t want to lose the friendship should something go wrong, but we both had a feeling that the friendship would be the very reason why McKinney Vos could succeed.
Jessica and I had many difficult conversations about how we would handle any disagreements that could come up. And while business owners may disagree from time to time, I think our foundation of friendship is why we can always come out on the other side.
I highly recommend starting a business with your best friend if the opportunity ever presents itself.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
McKinney Vos has always made it a priority to put our clients first. We want them to know that they come before our bottom line and that we’re here to help them navigate their case.
Keeping in touch with our clients is only a small part of brand loyalty, and it comes easily! It’s incredibly important that our clients know we are accessible. Therefore, we’ve opened ourselves up to any form of communication that the client is most comfortable with: Zoom meetings, in-person meetings, text messaging, phone calls, or e-mails.
We love our referrals, and those referrals speak to brand loyalty. We really like to keep in touch with our clients, even after their case has closed. We like to reach out several times during the year. We believe this has also contributed to brand loyalty.
