We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bailey Thibodeaux a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bailey, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Honeywave Creative was birthed in the most unnatural way… It all started with Potato Pets. You read that right, Potato Pets. You are probably thinking, “Bailey, what the heck are potato pets?”
Potato Pets were my invention that I just knew was going to be a breakthrough and make me millions. It was my whacky idea of combining the pet rock with Mr. Potato Head, and I figured there was no way I could fail with it. So with an idea and a dream of making it big, I began creating my own collection of unique Potato Pets. I developed the Purr-tato, Pug-tato, Sloth-tato, and Uni-tato, which where each complete with their own training manual, leash, collar, and pet box. I officially launched my potato pets and was met to the tune of absolutely zero sales.
After finally realizing that this idea may not have been the winner, I took a step back and thought about what I could take from this experience and apply to a new idea that might actually work.
I realized that I really enjoyed the branding and website design process that I went through for my potato pets. After pondering a little longer, I realized that out of all my failed business ideas, the part that I always enjoyed the most was creating the brand and website. I didn’t only enjoy it. I was actually GOOD at this design process. Be it my marketing and business background, or simply my wild and creative mind, there was something about the creative process that just clicked in my mind and lit a fire inside of me every time.
This was when I decided to dive deeper into this creative yearning and started Honeywave Creative, a brand and website design agency where we get to work with business owners everyday to bring their own unique business ideas to life and build a legacy.
We have been in business for a little over two years now, and I can see why the original Potato Pet idea didn’t work out. The Potato Pets were just a stepping stone on the inevitable path I was meant to follow. I’m now able to work everyday with other business owners in a way that allows me to create and breathe life into amazing business ideas. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Of course! My name is Bailey Thibodeaux, and I am the founder and head designer here at Honeywave Creative. Honeywave Creative is a Brand and Website Design Agency that helps entrepreneurs shine online with bold design and accelerated timelines.
One of our most important values at Honeywave Creative is that of time.
Your time. Our time. Time to launch.
Time is valuable, and we realize that every passing second that isn’t dedicated to the growth of you and your business is an opportunity missed.
This is why we focus so heavily on accelerated timelines. You don’t need months on end to develop a new look for your business. The transformation you are seeking can be completed in a single day with our Signature Design Day Processes.
With Honeywave Creative, we offer One Day Brands, One Day Websites, and One Day Combos or Brand and Websites. With all of these options, we complete your design in just a single day and allow you to go out into the world with a fresh new look that speaks to your ideal clients and helps you express your expertise to them.
Our processes take the long and stressful timelines that typically accomplish a new business design and kick them to the curb in exchange for a fun, quick timeline that packs all of the value into a single day.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Honeywave Creative’s social media growth on Instagram can be summed up in one word- “Consistency”.
Consistency with posting schedules.
Consistency with branding.
Consistency with content pillars.
Consistency matters, because it’s what your audience is going to use over time to construct their viewpoint of you. If you aren’t consistent in how often you show up online, you’ll soon be forgotten. I try to post once every weekday and multiple times on IG stories throughout the day.
Consistency with your branding means that you have a set color palette that you use in your content creation across all marketing areas. It also means that you have consistent fonts that are being used, and even consistency in your brand voice-which will shine through in your captions and speaking content.
Consistency with your content pillars helps your audience position you in their minds. It helps them know what you do, where your expertise lies, the value you provide, and how you can help if they or a friend ever needs it.
The social media growth process hasn’t been a super quick one for us, BUT the audience we have been able to build over the past two years is so dedicated and involved. It goes to show the quality over quantity truly comes into play when discussing social media followers and growth.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals!
When you treat your people right, they will treat you right in return. At this point in our business, a lot of new clients come from either past clients themselves, or from their friends that have been referred to us.
To help ensure that our clients have the best experience possible and will want to refer us out after, we have made sure to really refine our processes so they feel supported throughout every step of the way. We provide personalized onboarding videos, 1:1 support calls, and even send fun gifts on design days and after project completions.
Another great way to spark referrals and repeat work with your clientele is to stay in touch with them even after the project has been completed. We always end up becoming friends with our clients and genuinely care about their success. We frequently check-in with them and keep up with how they are doing on social media to make sure they always feel supported by us even after we are finished working together. Building relationships matter in business and life. Work is a lot more enjoyable when you are getting to work with clients that you love working with.
