Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bailey Plake. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bailey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think you first have to define what success means for you. Is it being booked every weekend or sold out of your product? Or is it hearing back from your customers about what your work means to them? Or something totally different? For me, I think having that definition for yourself is the only way YOU can know if you are hitting the mark. Otherwise, you are letting others define it for you and you will be exhausted trying reach goals that are imagined. Have your own definition and know what it will take to get you there.
Bailey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Long before The Back House Baking Co. came to be, I baked on Saturdays in my family’s home kitchen in Nebraska . I spent many weekends in middle school baking boxed brownies with my Grandma or watching Food Network and trying to recreate what they were making on TV. Today, baking is more than something fun I do on the weekends. I love creating desserts and breads for friends & family to enjoy. I believe some of our deepest connections happen around food; I hope the pastries I provide can be part of that experience for you and yours.
Here at The Back House, we use organic and local ingredients as much as possible; I believe the closer we are to our food, the better. We love working with local farmers to source our ingredients.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth. The more you consistently impress your customers, the more the spread the word and bring new customers to you.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I would say my advice to anyone starting out is post consistently, but don’t take yourself too seriously. Be YOU! Let people see behind the scenes even if it is not picture perfect.
