We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Badass Tran a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Badass Tran, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve ever created is my first album called “Memes To Dreams” with 13 tracks on it mixed and mastered on the vocals by me.
Based on a true story of what I went through living in those moment.
It has a variety of different genres of hip hop, rap, and flow.
How I came up with this album title is because people will always put you down and not take you seriously until you make it in life.
It actually all started when I dropped a song with visuals called “Vietnamese” and The Godfather/Pioneer of rap aka “Thai Viet G” put me on blast on social media gave his criticism on how he feels by hoping the project I had released is a parody and he told people to tell me to quit my career, but I’m not a rapper.
He was my inspiration and role model that I used to look up to and listen to until he did that to me.
It’s funny because I’m going through what Elon Musk is going through.
We met our heroes and they let us down.
Except I never personally met or seen Thai Viet G in person.
Plus who doesn’t like memes?
Shout out to Elon Musk for also inspiring this album title from “Memes to Dreams”

Jimmy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
How I started my music was I got tired of listening to the same old boring stuff and was like I can do better except with the less autotune.
My art and creation comes from my personality which is based off of what I like and represent which is anime, games, and all those geek stuff, but my favorite game/art is from Kingdom hearts.
Which is the art style on the album but just tweaked.
The red eyed black horse represent power from dynasty warriors and only the few strongest bosses can ride.
The red eyes on me came from Tokyo Ghoul.
The keyblade behind me is called the Ultima which is the strongest weapon in the game “kingdom hearts” but we reversed the color which is heartless which is black and red.
My inspirations came from what I grew up with listening to alternative rock, j pop, hip hop, rap, rnb, and oldies.
My focus is to create good and meaningful music so others not only can jam but can relate to me.
My mission for end goal I guess besides getting rich is to make a classic song with Hikaru Utada and Drake, maybe get them both on a feature haha

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yeah I want to be able to find the sound that I want when it comes to creating music as I get better over time making it sound organic and natural.
You can tell in a song if the person is actually putting there heart and soul into the music.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Closed minded people will never understand open minded people. Open minded we already thought about the endless possibilities that can happen or not happen.
Matter of fact we even accept things the way it is.
Closed minded people will be in denial.
That’s the difference.
Hopefully closed minded will oneday open up more and be accepting towards society whether people have tattoos, different sexual gender, different sexual preference, etc.
