We caught up with the brilliant and insightful B. Shytle a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi B. , thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think, at the end of the day, it takes confidence. You have to have confidence in yourself and what you are pushing to people in order for those same people to have enough confidence in you to buy your books. It takes a lot of drive for a person to succeed in anything that is important in life because anything worth having is not freely given to you. If you are not working hard for it, then it’s probably not worth it.
B. , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brittany Shytle, and I am an author and writer of dark mafia romance. I write captivating stories about people in a contemporary mafia world. I hit deeply on real-life tragedies that women and men face daily. I touch on grief, sorrow, and sadness. If you can feel it, I write about it in depth. I make it a point to hopefully have you feeling exactly what my characters are as you read the words from the page. One of my favorite things ever during this authoring process is when my readers threaten to throw their Kindles because of my cliffhangers or when they riot in our reader discord over my books. It brings me such joy to know that my books have that strong of effect on them.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
So, I would say that my business partner is Christina B. Rose. She is a fellow author, and we have become author BFFs. How we met is pretty funny, actually. I had messaged a good many authors the same question when I was first starting out, attempting to find out information about how the ARC process worked with a series and she was the only person who responded. I had messaged like twenty different people. I laugh about it now, but looking back, if she hadn’t messaged me back that day, we would not have all the great stuff going on that we do now. We make such a great team. It is crazy. We both push each other to be better authors, people, and writers. She has truly become my ride-or-die over the past few months, and I can’t imagine my life without her!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an author is the reader’s reactions. It is truly my favorite part. I love reading their reviews or even when I get messages from them personally. I love it when they word-vomit their feelings to me about my books and my story.
