We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful B Poetique. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with B below.
Alright, B thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
If I could go back in time, I would not have started a business sooner because I honestly did not have the tools, knowledge, or “know-how” to be a business owner. I have two sides; business and creative. If I had started sooner, I would have had a difficult time separating my two sides to grow both businesses separately. There are, however, things I would have done differently to build a larger platform on social media before becoming a multi-business owner. Growing on social media from a business standpoint is different from growing on a personal level because you can post what you want on a personal level. However, from a business standpoint, you have to be strategic. In sum, I would have started my businesses exactly when I did because I did so during the Covid 19 pandemic. This allowed me to focus on my businesses after gaining the knowledge I needed to be an entrepreneur.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As I mentioned, I have a business side and a creative side. I decided to use my knowledge in business to build brands for both sides.
On the Business side, I have a business for business consulting and strategy for entrepreneurs, creators, and working professionals called “KeaneM Productions LLC.” This business allows me to help others build the foundation they need to be entrepreneurs, grow their brands, and set themselves apart as working professionals. A lot of businesses in this sector only focus on one type of person, but I know that people are not one-dimensional, and wanted to offer foundation starters for everyone.
On the creative side, I am an author of poetry and I have a lifestyle business with apparel, accessories, and handmade items for day-to-day use called “By B.Poetique.” My creative business is for fun and inspiration. The goal is to find something you relate to and be inspired by it. Whether it’s the clothes or accessories you wear, the handmade items you love on, or the books you read. As a performing author of poetry and an entrepreneur, I have the opportunity to reach people via various mediums, that is what sets me apart from others.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is to meet people where they are. People generally do not like to jump through hoops and run through high water to work with you. I meet them where they are and build relationships from there.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think being honestly likable is helping me build my reputation within my two markets. I say “honestly likable” because I have encountered business owners who are likable to sell people their products/services, but are not likable or even nice overall. I enjoy the things I do and I think my enjoyment rubs off on others.
