We caught up with the brilliant and insightful B-Eazy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
B-Eazy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ve always been interested in Hip-Hop, especially the artists ability to put words together in a clever way to express whatever emotion or feeling that they wanted to express and I just knew that’s what I wanted to do.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I remember listening to cats like Bone Thugs N’ Harmony and Jay-Z as a kid and thinking, I can do that. So, I set out on a mission to do just that. I started writing poems and raps in secret, determined to actually get good at it before I let anybody know, Of course one of my close friends CJ knew what I was up to and he was always like, “You gotta let people hear this cause you’re dope, bro”. Around like 8th grade I started rapping in front of people and discovered that I was better than I thought. Still I thought, “I could be better” and that’s been my mentality ever since. Now not only have I started my own entertainment company Different By Choice Entertainment but, I’ve been blessed to do a Publishing deal with a major, put out my own projects and ghostwrite for a handful of artists. If I had to narrow it down and say what my proudest moment is… It’s more than one. Ive had a few songs featured on a couple Netflix Originals, WNBA games, ESPN, and a gang of other things worldwide. I’m just proud to say I make money doing what I love.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Honestly, just being heard. Having people DM me and tell me what a song meant to them or how one of my songs helped them through a tough time is the most rewarding thing and that’s what I’m in it for at the end of the day. I make music for myself and people who can relate.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Support comes in many forms but, the best thing people can do to support an artist or creative is just give them a chance even if they don’t have a big name or overwhelmingly large following. A lot of times the greatest artists are the ones no one has ever heard of before.
