We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aztec Eagles a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Aztec , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
We had two shows a month away, one member, and dms were sent and answered, and we formed the final members of the Aztec Eagles. We started practicing, some things were clicking some things weren’t and throughout all the struggles, mess ups, and lessons learned, we continued to grow and preform every show better than the last.
“When I got asked to join the band I got really excited and nervous, I had never played with a group before and just the idea of having two shows and a month to prepare was crazy” Eman, Keyboardist, says.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a band based in San Antonio, Texas with a unique sound. “We incorporate our different personalities in our music and allow creativity to blend our individual interest in genres.” Nani, guitarist. says.
We have 5 members and a rotating set of 3 vocalists.
We are always looking to grow as musicians and take on new experiences.
Recently formed a new lineup and are continuing to work on music and get an official EP done. In between recording, we have taken on plenty shows including the chancla academy rock fest and the boeing tech port arena. We love playing music and working together as a band, and are looking forward to growing our following and branching out of San Antonio.
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
“The bands closest call was after many lineups, we had a few shows lined up as Aztec Eagles and it was just me in the band… I didn’t want to call off shows and make the name unreliable so I reached out to friends who played instruments and asked them to join me and make the band our own… we had a few rehearsals and most of us were new to the stage. We practiced and worked on our weaknesses together within a short period of time and had our first show together.” Lexi, bassist, says.
How’d you meet your business partner?
“ Ihad not met anyone in the band before we got together for the first time. Lexi reached out to me through one of my friends who happened to be Lexis sister. She asked if I was interested in joining her band. I was all in. A couple days later I was put in a group chat with the title of Aztec Eagles. We decided to meet in person very shortly. There I met Evan, Austin, and Lexi. A couple days later we had our first practice and that’s when I met Eman. We all kicked it off very quickly through our common interests.” -Nani, guitarist.
